6 Things No One Tells You About Being Prego

Hello 26 weeks! For those of you that can’t do math like me, that’s 6.5 months. I am feeling large and in charge! And although I am trying to enjoy every moment, movement and kick, I’m so ready to be done. I mean, when your winter coat no longer buttons, you get out of breath just trying to get your kid buckled into the car seat, and sleeping until 4 am feels like sleeping in…it’s about that time.

Being on baby #2 is a completely different experience. There is still a handful of the same hilarious and disgusting things you go through, but there are also a handful of new experiences and feelings, which I am sure is the case with every person and every pregnancy.

Jamie, the hubby, thinks we’re done after baby #2…me not so much. But regardless, just in case, I’ve been really trying to take in all the moments…the good and the bad.

A lot of people think being pregnant is such a beautiful experience, and then there are some who absoloutely hate it and can’t find the beauty in it all…and then there is me. I just think it is hilarious and insane! It blows my mind the things our bodies are capable of. We create freaking humans! How insane is that?! Lately, I’ve been chatting with friends about all these crazy things and wanted to share a few that nobody told me about.

Prego Dreams

Oh my word. Pregnancy dreams are the craziest. First of all, you remember EVERYTHING. Which is strange and awesome yet can be scary at the same time. I love dreams and I love when I can remember them. So this makes me the happiest about being prego. However, if I’m super stressed with a project, these dreams are actually pretty terrifying. But my favorite… my dad passed away very unexpectedly when I was in my early 20’s. It was awful. He was one of my favorite people in the world. But while being prego, he is in my dreams constantly. It makes me want to be pregnant a million times. He hangs out with my kids, I can hear his voice, I can hear him singing me my song, and the best part…I remember it all when I wake up. It makes me wonder if I’m always dreaming about him and just don’t know it.

What about you guys? Do you have crazy prego dreams? Do tell!

Anxiety

Uffda! This is one that I’m sure is just different with everyone. This hasn’t been as bad the second time around as the first, but I’ve had major anxiety and only during my pregnancies. It’s crazy. I do a lot of public speaking and no one has time for this! My doctor recommended meditation, yoga and all that jazz; which I have been doing and have to say…it works. But instead of practicing once for different presentations, I not only practice 20 times, but I am also constantly seeking advice, insight and help from others to reduce the crazy anxious thoughts.

Anyone else experience this? Got any tips or tricks?

Itching

Holy bonkers. Itching I guess is a side effect of being pregnant. I had totally forgotten about this from baby #1, and this momma is about to itch her skin right off. First time around people told me to use oil, but I hate being greasy and was super turned off by it. Well, I now go through a bottle of oil every couple weeks. I found this amazing product that has really worked for me called bio oil. I put oil all over after every shower and before I go to bed. It has helped a ton. But who would have known that being prego makes you itchy. I guess, after all, we are growing a human which means our skin is growing too. It can also be a side effect of a few different conditions.

Sex Drive

Sexy time. Oh my. My hubby said I can’t write about this but I can’t hide the truth from you guys! haha! Your hormones are crazy pants and your sex drive is through the roof. Another thing I had no idea was from being prego, until I was freaking myself out and googled it. Low and behold- your sex drive increases when you’re pregnant. It’s crazy. But worse, you don’t want to have sexy time because you just feel super un-sexy. haha! Now that’s confusing…

Pregnancy Congestion

This I just found out with baby #2, but remember with baby #1 that I was congested all the time. Because of allergies, I feel like I’m always living with congestion. Half the time I don’t even realize when I am congested because it’s just become my normal. Right now I’m going on what feels like month three of being sick and congested. And once again…worst part…you can’t take a darn thing for it. However, my mom gave me a sinus spray with just water and saline solution. It’s pretty awesome, so I’ve started using that and it’s already working like a charm.

Baby Love

Hormones are the craziest. Crying out of nowhere, all the time. Get ready people! No one warned me that I would just start crying when I looked at Greyson knowing that he would soon not be my one and only itty bitty. I’m so ready for baby #2 to be here, but at the same time that means I only have a few months to spend with just my little man.

And then that crazy mom guilt sinks in…thinking back over his 2.5 years of life…did I spend enough time with him? Did I love him enough? Did I give him enough of my attention? Did I send him to daycare too early? How did he get so big already?! And then you just want to eat him up and cuddle the crap outta him and “cherish every moment.” haha!

So there it is. The top six experiences no one warned me about while being prego with baby #2. But hey, we got this! We are creating perfect, little tiny humans after-all. There’s nothing we can’t handle!

Can any of you ladies relate? Got any tips or tricks to share with us mommas out there?

Great read! Pretty sure I experienced all of the above. I miss the vivid dreams the most. Never thought I could love another lil one as much as my firstborn but it’s possible. Congrats on your 2nd pregnancy and enjoy the last few months! Xo.

The dreams and congestion are insane for me as well. I also found out that sometimes you have to do extra work on oral care because halitosis is a real issue too!! So I got my water pik back out and have been using that which has helped a ton. This is my first kid but, I’m with you – this is a hilarious journey!
