A Mom’s Night Before Christmas

A Mom's Night Before Christmas | Twin Cities Moms Blog

‘Twas the night before Christmas
And my house is a mess
I should start to clean it
But I’m not; I confess!

I’m too tired, I want wine
There’s just too much to do
You see, I’m a mom
So the work’s never through

The stockings were hung…
Then yanked down, over there.
Lilah had ’em on her feet,
so they wouldn’t be bare.

Those aren’t real socks!
Please hang them back up!
Before I could help her,
Nolan spilled his sippy cup

The tree only has
Ornaments on the top
All the touching and breaking,
the kids they won’t stop!

We tried to make cookies
To share Christmas cheer
Then they fought over sprinkles
So now I’m down here…

This sprinkle explosion
Might look mighty festive
But sugar all over
Is no way to live!

Tomorrow we will go
Spend time with loved ones
And their small, fragile things
Of which, there are tons

It’s not a real holiday
Unless something is broken
Grandma, we’re sorry about
Your vase from Hoboken!

We could just enjoy dinner,
But the kids will not eat
Any holiday food
Unless it’s a treat!

We will wake in the morning
All the excitement and joy
I’ll see the kids smile
Upon seeing a new toy

“You said you don’t need a thing!”
My husband will start to say
As they all open gifts
But not for me, not today

I picked them out, wrapped them up
Made them glow with Christmas glee
Shoulda bought myself those uggs
Made it out “to me from me”

Christmas is so different than
before we had these babes
It’s crazy, nuts and tiring
But for nothing, would I trade

I truly don’t need gifts
Or a clean kitchen floor
I’d love a silent night,
But it’d be such a bore!

So it won’t be perfect,
And go crazy, I might!
Now, Merry Christmas, mommas!
And to all a good night!
