I am a Twin Cities Mom: Melissa Walters

Today’s I am a Twin Cities Mom feature is all about Melissa Walters!

“My name is Melissa and I am a mom to a silly 2 year old boy. I have been married to my husband for 3 years this May, and we live in the south metro. My husband and I actually met in St. Paul on a Tinder date (Yep! I met my husband on Tinder!), and our five-year dating anniversary is at the end of March. Besides being a full-time mama and an Instagram Creator, I am also a full-time Retail Manager for a Minnesota-based company that I’ve worked for since I was 16 (if you are doing math… I am almost 32…). Any other free time is dedicated to any and every TV show that exists (faves are Zoey Extraordinary, Law and Order: SVU, all the CBS FBI shows, You and a new one, Nurses).”

I am a Twin Cities Mom: Melissa Walters | Twin Cities Mom CollectiveWhat do you love about calling the Twin Cities home?

Besides living here :)… Everything I love is from here. I met my husband in St. Paul, we shared our first two apartments in the Twin Cities and now own a home. I became pregnant and we now have a beautiful 2 year old boy.

If we peeked in your purse right now, what would we find?

I mean… I don’t carry a purse really anymore because my purse is now a diaper bag, so I mainly just carry a wallet. Snacks, lip gloss, mascara, two pairs of kid boxers, a pair of peed on pants, flushable wipes and a hair tie.

How do you prioritize friendships and connections with other women?

Instagram. All my mom friends and I met on Instagram. So we all have group chats. Hoping to meet them when Covid restrictions lift!

Being a mom is no easy task. How do you relax and take care of you?

Wine and Schitt’s Creek. I try to do some sort of self care at least once or twice a month. But I work full-time as a retail manager. So I’m typically always doing something.

What’s been your greatest joy in motherhood?

Seeing how we directly impact our child’s growth and development. Seeing how quick and smart he is! Recently, we potty trained our 2 year old, so that was a huge win. The cheering we did just getting that first poop! 😂

What have you found most challenging in your motherhood journey?

Sleep training. But we will 100% do it with the next baby. Also, I forget during tantrums that some times it is just because he doesn’t understand. Working through that can be hard.

How do you hope your life influences and/or inspires other women?

I just hope other women see I’m real and relate to me. I still have yet to get my “pre-baby body” back and I am accepting that. I have moments like everyone else and I show them all that.
