7 Local Twin Cities Plant Shops to Bring Life Inside Your Home

I’m on a mission this year to add more plant life to my indoor space. And no, I don’t just mean all those plastic ones you can collect at IKEA that require zero water and never die (although I certainly have plenty of those. You have to start somewhere!) It is a commitment to keep a living thing alive. But with commitment comes great reward, particularly during the winter months when green life is nowhere in sight.

Thankfully, the Twin Cities have plenty of amazing shops with knowledgeable owners that want those of us with plant parenting dreams to be successful. There’s a plant for every level of care and I’m determined to find the right ones for me. Join me in bringing life and oxygen to our homes this year with a plant from one of the amazing local spots for green growing! If anything, it’s the perfect afternoon break from the frigid winter weather to remember that spring will indeed come again.

Lost in the Forrest

Lost in the Forrest1639 West End Blvd., St. Louis Park, MN

My first stop needs to be this lovely shop started by an elementary teacher who aims to teach others about caring for plants. Find houseplants and plant care tips in one stop, as well as artwork by local vendors.

Fractal Cactus

Fractal Cactus | 3750 Minnehaha Ave., Minneapolis, MN

On a recent trip to Arizona this fall, I was amazed by the incredible variety of cacti. While it didn’t make for a great carry-on, now I can pick up one locally at Fractal Cactus. Their huge selection of cacti and succulents are sourced directly from southwestern states like Arizona. Book an appointment to browse cacti and visit the shop’s white tree frog, Benni.

Mother Co., Plants

Mother Co., Plants | 2400 N. Second St., Minneapolis, MN, and 162 Dale St. N., St. Paul, MN

Fully stocked with cacti and tropical plants from all around the globe, this plant shop specializes in rare and large houseplants. With a range of care supplies, home goods, and handmade pottery, this company with two locations is a great place to explore as well as consider a private workshop.

Planty Queens

Planty Queens | 2807 Johnson St. NE, Minneapolis, MN

Freshen up your winter home with the life of a bright green plant. Founded by two best friends with a love for plants, this shop offers services for plant consultation, rental, and care recommendations.

The Greenery Plant Shop & Mercantile

The Greenery Plant Shop & Mercantile | 3931 E. Lake St., Minneapolis, MN

Owned by Native women, this establishment features a variety of house plants and care options. The mercantile also highlights the work of local artisans, including handmade products like craftware and plant accessories.

Agrarian Seed & Garden

Agrarian Seed and Garden | 5152 Hiawatha Ave., Minneapolis, MN

This new garden is in my backyard making it the perfect spot to pick up vegetable, herb, and native plant offerings. But what I recently discovered is the fantastic selection of indoor plants. They also claim to “suit the needs and curiosities of casual and serious gardeners alike,” so I feel welcome already.  (seasonal hours — closed in winter)

Carousel + Folk

Carousel + Folk | 3109 E. 42nd St., Minneapolis, MN

I was completely charmed the moment I popped into this husband-and-wife-owned shop. Not only do they have amazing unique little plants of all shapes and sizes, but they also sell gorgeous vintage vessels and plant accessories to turn your living plant into art. It’s the perfect spot to find a unique gift, for a friend or yourself!
