Here at Twin Cities Mom Collective, we are big fans of the mother’s story. In fact, that’s why we make a point to bring you the information from moms, for moms. Listening to other mothers is how we learn and grow in our communities!
This is why we are very excited to share with you an incredible performance coming up in May–The Listen to Your Mother Twin Cities Live Story Reading Event! Listen to Your Mother is a live show where 12+ women read their true stories of motherhood on stage–stories of bravery and heartbreak and laughter and becoming. Listen to Your Mother Twin Cities has been a celebrated event for the past 10 years making this year’s performances to be a truly special anniversary year.
Listen to Your Mother, a national live reading series founded by Ann Imig, was first brought to the Twin Cities by local chapter founders Galit Breen and Vikki Reich in 2013. For 10 years and 14 different performances, they have put together this live reading performance at the historic Riverview Theater stage in South Minneapolis. While every performance features new cast members and new stories, the concept is always the same–readers tell their own personal stories about the varying beauty of motherhood. Breen and Reich describe the performance as a “quilt threading their stories together, to tell all of our collective story of motherhood.”
Having the honor of being a part of this year’s cast of storytellers, I can tell you first hand that this weaving of stories is magical. After two rehearsals, I have heard incredible stories, each one different and specific, yet universal and connecting. You will laugh, you will cry, you will learn something about your own story you had not considered before. Communities grow stronger together when we listen to one another’s stories. What a joy to celebrate that right here in the Twin Cities just before Mother’s Day!
There are two performances for 2023–Wednesday, May 3 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, May 7 at 10:30 AM. Tickets for this incredible event are on sale RIGHT NOW but sell out every year, so don’t delay!

Doors open an hour before the event and visitors usually line up early to get the best seat. Riverview Theater is located in the heart of the residential Longfellow neighborhood; parking is tricky so plan accordingly. The concessions will be open during the event and you will not want to miss the best movie popcorn available in the Twin Cities! Shows last approximately 90 minutes.

Tickets are non-refundable and are $25 online, and $30 cash only at the door. On show day the doors will open at 6:00 PM on Wednesday and 9:30 AM on Sunday; all seating is General Admission; and parking is street parking only.
