I am a Twin Cities Mom: Jessica Easter & Megan Stark

Today’s I am a Twin Cities Mom feature is a double! We’re excited for you to meet Jessica Easter & Megan Stark

Jessica and Megan co-host the podcast Mommin’ where you hear from real stories from real moms – the good, the bad and everything in between. Get ready to laugh, cry, and be inspired as you listen to moms right there in the trenches with you sharing their successes, failures, tips and tricks on how they make it work everyday. We know that as wonderful as parenthood is, it can also be lonely. We’re here to help fill the void.

I am a Twin Cities Mom: Jessica Easter & Megan StarkWhat do you love about calling the Twin Cities home?

Megan: We love living in the Twin Cities! My family moved back to Minnesota when our first son was about one year old. We’re happy to be closer to family, enjoy being close to many lakes & parks, there are so many great restaurants, and we also like being closer to Duluth/Northern Minnesota. Of course, being able to attend the State Fair every year is a big bonus!

If we peeked in your purse right now, what would we find?

Jessica: Chapstick, QueaseEASE stick (my daughter and I get car sick very easily), hair ties, wallet and about 20 pens, but only 2 that actually work.

How do you prioritize friendships and connections with other women?

Megan: For me, it’s quality over quantity and making time to connect with friends. Also, after having kids, knowing that sometimes we’ll go longer without connecting, but that’s ok, and giving each other understanding. Spending an evening out with friends really helps me recharge, and I also love making plans to meet a friend and bring our kiddos somewhere fun! Text messages, scheduled Zoom calls, and Marco Polo have helped over the last year!

Being a mom is no easy task. How do you relax and take care of you?

Jessica: I like to go for walks either by myself or with our dog. I’ll either call a friend to chat or listen to a podcast/audiobook. I also love watching a good TV show!

What’s been your greatest joy in motherhood?

Megan: I love watching my kiddos learn and develop! Sometimes I’m so shocked at a new word they know or a new skill they’ve developed. I’m always proud when they choose to do something kind for one another (i.e. comforting a crying sibling).

What have you found most challenging in your motherhood journey?

Jessica: Patience. Whether it be letting them do things on their own, even though I could do it in half the time, or hearing, “why not” a million times a day – it’s so hard to remain patient. I’m always working to remind myself that it’s worth it in the long run and that they’re just being kids!

How do you hope your life influences and/or inspires other women?

Megan: I’m a lactation consultant and a pediatric NP. Working in this role as a new mom, I really recognized some of the struggles of being a new mom (or mom in general), and how important it is to support each other. In my career (and personal life!), I absolutely love supporting and empowering new moms on this journey – reassuring them that they know how to care for their baby, assisting with breastfeeding (or the decision not to breastfeed, which I 100% support), and providing a listening ear. And being honest with each other – we don’t need to be “perfect” and it’s normal to feel a variety of emotions (good and bad!) as moms.

This was also what prompted Jessie and me to start our podcast, Mommin’. We knew how important connections with other moms were to us, and we wanted to create a space for women to share their stories – honestly and without judgement. Hearing that someone else has been through a similar challenging situation can be life changing.
