As the world opens up again, travel is at the top of so many families’ lists for how they want to spend their summer! Just a quick three hours from the Twin Cities metro, the Wisconsin Dells is the perfect destination for your next family getaway. Our favorite place to stay in the Dells is the Wilderness Resort! Home to 4 indoor and 4 outdoor waterparks, they are America’s Largest Waterpark Resort! Rain or shine, you and your family will have endless options to enjoy and amenities that were created with your family in mind.
Lodging
The Wilderness has hundred of different lodging options to fit your family! From standard hotel rooms all the way up to five-bedroom cabins, you will find somewhere to stay comfortably. We personally found the 2 bedroom condo in the Glacier Canyon Lodge to be the perfect setup with our family of four! We had a master bedroom while the girls had their own separate bedroom, which allowed us to stay comfortable and allow for quiet spaces in the evenings. Added bonus for the kids: it has bunk beds! The kitchen and spacious living room also allowed us to relax easily and truly feel at home. Also, we highly recommend the waterpark view – it was the happiest sight to wake up to with two eager kiddos who just couldn’t wait to get on their suits and head out there!
The great part about the resort is that you can’t go wrong with where you stay because everything is so accessible by walking or by skyways between the various resort buildings. All 8 waterparks can be reached regardless of where your hotel room or cabin is located without the stress of having to move your car. Our kids thought the free golf cart and shuttle options to take you wherever you want to go on the property were also so cool!
Waterparks
No matter what time of the year, the Wilderness Resort has multiple waterparks you can enjoy! With 4 indoor and 4 outdoor waterparks, you and your family can choose a new adventure every day of your stay. With summer just arriving, our family spent most of our time outdoors this trip.
As a mom, I appreciated so much how the waterparks are structured. Each park truly has options for all ages – which for me meant no running around trying to find an individual park for each child to enjoy with age-appropriate slides or pools. Within every waterpark, you will find everything from zero-depth entry options and splash pads all the way up to body slides and thrill-seeking drops! I also love that the Wilderness requires all children under 48 inches to wear a life vest in the waterparks as apart of their Swim Safe program. I felt such peace of mind knowing that the safety of all the park guests was top of mind – and that was definitely felt with the abundance of lifeguards and waterpark staff.
Activities
The Wisconsin Dells is certainly known for its waterparks, but we found The Wilderness to offer so much more beyond that. With over a dozen attractions, there are so many options to take a break from the water or be able to enjoy a day of fun if the weather is not cooperating. The easiest way to enjoy this fun is by purchasing a Fun Pass. For just $29.95, you can enjoy Laser Tag, Mini Golf, Ropes Course, Go-Karts, Bumper Boats, and more! You can even upgrade to an unlimited pass for just $15 extra so that your kids can enjoy all of this fun as many times as they want!
The Wilderness also has an incredible new attraction – Take Flight – that will literally take you to new heights! This aerial adventure ride is the first of its kind in the Wisconsin Dells that gives you the feeling of flying on their HUGE 65 x 48 screen. Your seat literally rolls, dips, and glides as your feet dangle – giving you the ultimate flying simulation experience.
Dining
The Wilderness has countless dining options between the various buildings – you are sure to find something everyone enjoys! From poolside options to fine dining, it’s easy to locate exactly what kind of cuisine you are looking for. We also found it incredibly helpful that our condo had a small kitchen where could easily prepare meals or snacks before heading back out for more fun. Our favorite was Monk’s at the Wilderness – the kids loved it because their meal was served on a frisbee that they could take home. And for parents… how about that beautiful patio?!
