This was a typical text conversation between my husband and me. He would send a message letting me know he was stopping by the store on his way home from the office, and I know he held his breath hoping I wouldn’t mention the most annoying purchase ever: multiple gallons of water.
I moved to Minnesota from another part of the country several years ago, and the difference in water was the most difficult adjustment I had to make. (Yes, even more than the long, harsh winters.) The taste from the tap and the trouble getting shampoo out of my long hair was bad enough, but I could never get used to this water in my coffee. The taste was funky to me anyway, but then my machine got clogged up and wouldn’t work at all even with my water passing through an under-the-counter filter. After an intense vinegar wash, I decided to switch to bottled water for my morning brew, and that’s when the hassle of hauling gallon jugs began.
The water thing has been a background stress for a long time, so when I found out about Aquarius Home Services and Kinetico® systems, I was very interested. I jumped at the chance to have a water specialist in my home for a test, and I couldn’t wait to learn what kind of difference a Kinetico® system could make.
The Water Test
Aquarius Home Services employs a team of water specialists, and the tests they run in homes are pretty incredible. Bryan Martin was the specialist assigned to my house, and he arrived right at his appointed time (after I received a text from Aquarius with Bryan’s bio and a photo of him, I might add). He offered a warm hello, removed his shoes by the door, and went to the kitchen to set up his science lab.
Bryan’s black case was like a full-on mad scientist situation with test tubes, vials, and liquids of different colors, and I was here for it. Running tests to find out how hard the water was (very), how much additional “stuff” was in there (a lot), and how much it was affecting things like making a cup of tea (infinitely), was eye-opening. I knew I didn’t like the water in my home, but seeing the data right in front of me was something else!
The Difference a Kinetico® System Makes
Have you ever bought a bag of coffee at your favorite spot, brewed it at home, and wondered why it wasn’t the same? The answer is the water. Starbucks, for example, uses a triple-filter reverse osmosis system. Even grabbing a separate cup of ice water is a thing at Starbucks because the water is so good! Bryan explained all of this to me during my water test while he brewed two cups of Lipton tea, one with my current filtered water and one with what had been through a Kinetico® reverse osmosis system. I’ll spare you the details, but there was no comparison in the color and smell of the two brews.
Water treated with a Kinetico® system tastes amazing and can put a stop to bottled water purchases of any kind, but there are also benefits that go beyond the water you consume. Tucked away in Bryan’s black case was a clear tube that showed the type of sediment building up in my water heater due to the fact that my home was quite literally built on top of an old rock quarry. (This was also confirmed by the plumbing company that installed my current water softener when the old one went bad after just a few years.) After chatting about the water heater, Bryan went over a few other issues I have and how they could be resolved with a Kinetico® water softener that uses a patented regeneration process.
- My kids’ humidifiers require bottled water to avoid a white film covering everything in their bedrooms.
- There is build-up on all of my faucets.
- I struggle to rinse shampoo out of my hair.
- My kids complain about how many rinses I have to do for shampoo to come out of their hair. (I have boys with short hair.)
- Guests visiting from other parts of the country always comment on how hard it is to get soap off in the shower. (They also drink only bottled water when they’re here, for what it’s worth.)
- Several pieces of my clear glassware are no longer clear.
