When it comes to finding the right dentist for your child, it can be challenging to know where to start. Different kids have different needs, along with varying comfort levels with receiving dental care. The good news is that Metropolitan Pediatric Dental Associates has locations throughout the Twin Cities and they are equipped to help any child – ages 6 months all the way up to 19 years. The professional, gentle, and caring pediatric dentists at Metropolitan Pediatric Dental Associates have been providing quality dental care for children and adolescents since 1965!
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. The slogan this year is: “Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth for a healthy smile.”
Many first-time parents wonder when is the right time to get their child in for a dental check-up. Getting the right dental care, starting as soon as that first tooth comes in or by age 1 is an important part of overall health and sets kids up for a lifetime of good dental habits.
Dentistry Designed for Every Child
Metropolitan Pediatric Dental Associates is specially trained and equipped to treat children who have special needs, children who require a large amount of dental work, or children who are anxious and simply need a little extra care. They even offer hospital dentistry, as well as in-office general anesthesia, so they can complete all of your child’s dental work in one visit, while they sleep.
How to Best Prevent Cavities
1: Children should brush and floss their teeth 2 times per day for 2 minutes, in the morning & right before bed. Parents should help with brushing and flossing until kids have strong dexterity (around 8-9).
2: The AAPD strongly recommends children visit a pediatric dentist every 6 months beginning around age 1.
3: Children can have water whenever, milk with meals, & juice just sometimes. Kids should not have soda or sports drinks, as they are high in sugar and known to cause cavities. Never put your baby to bed with a bottle.
4: Children should eat 3 balanced meals per day. A couple of healthy snacks in between meals are okay, but snacking in between meals can cause decay.
