(Minneapolis, MN): Have you checked out the MSP Aircraft Viewing Area yet? Your kids are going to LOVE it! The Minneapolis Airport opened an airplane viewing area in 2015, and it’s pretty darn cool!
The MSP Aircraft Viewing Area is in the heart of MSP’s airfield. Located at the end of Cargo Road and next to the FedEx Shipping Center, this space provides spectacular views of aircraft takeoffs and landings.
As you drive there – you are passing planes taking off, driving under runways. Our first time driving there, I felt like I was going to get pulled over for driving in the wrong area, despite checking the map before we left! But at the end of the winding road is a small parking lot with a grassy area with benches and picnic tables – the perfect size for your kiddos to run around with arms stretched out pretending they’re airplanes!
When we were there, planes were landing in front of us, and taking off behind us. The kids loved watching the big planes and the itty bitty “baby” planes. But the best part is that it’s FREE! So, pack up a thermos of hot chocolate, some snacks, and a warm blanket (or for date night, some wine!), and go watch your kids’ eyes light up as they watch the airplanes!

Oh my goodness, thank you! My toddler likes watching the planes fly over our backyard so much, I bet he’ll love this! I was just wishing I knew where we could go to get a better look without the cops showing up ;-).
He’ll love this! Planes every direction! Just dress warmly because it’s extra windy there!!

There’s also a really great off leash dog park by the airport. You can watch planes, take your pup and pet other peoples pups! Win win win.
