You are Amazing, Mama

We can be our toughest critic. I know I am. What I do for my kids doesn’t seem to be good enough. I overthink things.

“Why do they want to sit next to them and not me?”

“Do they think I am the worst mama ever?”

I doubt myself because I always think I could be doing more. What does more really even mean? Is it an extra 30 minutes cuddling next to the boys in the morning? Is it taking them on more adventures every weekend?

Whatever you are thinking you need to do more of, just know that your kids probably think you do everything. I have to remind myself to stop overthinking it, they are probably just happy you are here! I know they miss me when I am gone for work, but it’s so much fun to see their faces when they see me walk through that door at the end of the day or wake up and walk into our room to see that I’ve come home from a work trip. Notice those little things before you jump into the what ifs and self-doubt.

I have started to make a conscious effort to pay more attention to how they greet me. As soon as I walk through the door, it’s, “Mommy’s home!”

I’ve also noticed that the times it took me a few minutes longer to leave for work and they happen to wake up, they walk out of the room and I hear a little gasp of surprise. I get a big hug with a “Hi Mommy!”

I have to remember that just being a mama is amazing. As a mama, we go through high points and low points, and I like to see them both as ways for me to learn and grow in this amazing and important role. My kids will see me at my best and my worst. Even at my worst, I just think of how great it is to be their mama and it makes even those worst moments seem a little better.

When you start to doubt or question yourself, just remember that YOU are AMAZING. No one else can do what you do for your kids. No one can really take away the role you play. Embrace every moment whether good or bad. Don’t let anyone else tear you down for anything you do with and for your kids.

When you see a mama in your life and start to compare yourself, please STOP! Every mama is amazing. Make sure you tell that to all the mamas in your life often.

We go to our mama friends to vent and try to figure out why we feel the way we do or did what we did. Mama friend, I will listen, I will ask questions, I will be there for you. We will feel inadequate, we will feel elated. We will feel everything in this world as we navigate this life of motherhood.

I am a work in progress. Every day is a new day and I will experience something different. I will take advice from other mamas when I can, but know that just because it worked for them, does not mean it will work for me. I will try to develop my own way of navigating these waters and use others who have come before me as support.

The new mamas in my life, I am here for you. Come to me with your questions and I will support you. I will give you my experience and perspective, but know you are not required to follow the same path as me.

Mama, I want you to remember that you are amazing.
