Slice of Heaven: Where to Get your Holiday Pies

With the biggest pie holiday right around the corner, it is extremely important you decide or at least sample some pies so you are sure to have the best one for your Thanksgiving (or Christmas! or whatever!) meal. Here are a couple of local pie makers you might want to give a try!

Key’s Café

Location: Several Metro locations

First up on the list is the very popular brunch spot, Keys Café. For over 50 years, Key’s Café has served one of the best brunches around. Now with seven locations throughout the Twin Cities and one in Hudson, wherever you are located it’s worth the drive and often the wait. Their bakery is always filled with deserts and treats and of course pies. They offer fruit pies, cream pies, sugar-free apple pie, bread pudding, and mince meat pie. You might want to grab a cinnamon or caramel roll on your way out!

Fruit & Grain

Fruit and Grain has a commercial-grade kitchen in St Paul but right now does not have a brick-and-mortar store. They attend numerous farmers markets throughout the Twin Cities and also supply baked goods to local coffee shops and cafes. You can currently find them at Winter Market: Indoors at Bachman’s. (Also – don’t miss all of the holiday happenings at Bachman’s!)This small business offers sweet and savory pies including, caramel cardamom, salted maple pie, bourbon pumpkin pie (might want to keep this one away from the kid’s table), and chocolate oat pie. Put in an order to pick up or find them throughout the Twin Cities on their website. Fruit and Grain’s Instagram page is worth the scroll!

Vikings and Goddesses Pie Company

Vikings and Goddesses work with local farmers to utilize seconds and surplus food to minimize food waste. Like Fruit and Grain, Vikings and Goddesses can be found in many cafés throughout the Twin Cities. You can also purchase their frozen pie crusts at Wise Acre Eatery or Eastside Food Co-op. Vikings and Goddesses offers home delivery as well as a spot at the Mill City Market. Looking for something new this year? Maybe the sweet corn custard pie, butterscotch, or milk and cookies pie.

Location: 272 Snelling Ave S #100, St Paul

Hot Hands Pies & Biscuits is located in St Paul and has the cozy ambiance of a quiet café, all while overlooking Snelling Ave. The half-glass wall will give kids a secret view into the kitchen and keep them occupied while you enjoy a dessert and some coffee. Hot Hands has great varieties for Thanksgiving including a 12-pack sampler of mini pies or a mini 6-pack. A perfect 4 pumpkin, 4 apple, and 4 pecan will look perfect on your table while giving variety and perfect sizes for everyone. Another great brunch option with local ingredients in a warm and cozy spot.

Stockholm Pie and General Store

Location: N2030 Spring St, Stockholm, WI 54769

If you’re up for a little adventure, maybe take a little drive to Red Wing or Stockholm, Wisconsin, and check out Stockholm Pie and General Store, which was voted the #1 pie shop in America by USA Today.  If you need a little encouragement you might want to take a look at their website and check out that Cranberry Brown Sugar Custard pie. If the pictures make you drool but you don’t have the time, Stockholm also ships across the country. A piece of pie from home might be a nice gift to someone who might be away for the holidays or maybe a college student looking for a piece of home.

Apple Orchards

Your favorite apple orchards are often fully stocked with pie for the Thanksgiving season. Make sure to check their website or social media pages to make sure, but you can never go wrong with an apple pie straight from the apple orchard!
