It’s all the rage. As of today, that is. I give it a week of fame before it falls into infamy. It was the feature on the drive-thru menu screen. It was all over the face of the amazingly creative barista that did her eyeshadow and lipstick to match the crazy drink.
And when I sat down to work at my local Starbucks this afternoon, what felt like 500 teenagers were drinking VENTI Unicorn Fraps. I know – everyone is freaking out about the sugar. I get that. Okay, I don’t. If you saw a tie-dyed drink, would you honestly think it was anything but a giant sugar bomb? I can’t tell if it reminds me more of summer camp t-shirts or a bath bomb that your toddler could easily confuse as the biggest piece of candy they’ve ever wanted to bite into.
So I tried it. And, well, I’ll let you decide for yourself, but it’s not my cup of tea. But I do have to say, it’s brilliant marketing and I wanted to buy it out of pure curiosity.
So…will you?
Regardless of what you think of it, this unicorn is as elusive as any other. These drinks have been so popular today that tomorrow, at many Starbucks, they’ll be out and are unlikely to be restocked.
