From My Favorite Corner: In the Midst of Your Struggle

from the owner's desk (8)

Have you checked out our newest, regular series, written by our Founder? This week’s edition touches on struggles, and how we all face our own.

I like these posts each Sunday – typically they’re a fun round-up of a list of posts that our amazing writers have put together. This Sunday, I’m sharing a harder list with you. Because life isn’t always easy, because we all struggle and because ignoring that this is part of our existence just isn’t real life.

Today, I’ll be spending the morning at the cemetery with my family. My whole family. It’s the only place where I can be with all five of my kids at once, as two of them were delivered quietly, then laid to rest together nearly three years ago. Today was supposed to be my sweet Hattie’s 3rd birthday, so we will eat cupcakes and I will watch with tears in my eyes as three of my children run and dance around the resting place of my two sweet, quiet babies.

I am an eternal optimist. I believe in hope. I believe that blue skies always come back around. But I also know that before those blue skies come back there are black and gray clouds that shadow your smile, that torrents of rain take your joy, even if only for a while, and that the sunshine seems like it’s never coming. Maybe your struggle isn’t a lost child, but a lost parent, a cancer journey or a number of other griefs none of us should have to walk. And whether your hardest day is a Sunday in June, a Tuesday in September or a Friday in January, I want you to know, more than anything, you are not alone. We may not share the same griefs, but I understand deep pain and you have the right to walk through it at your own pace and feel the hard on those hardest days. Whatever your hardest day is, please allow your friends to hold you in it. Cry your tears alone if you need to, but then cry them with your friend holding your hand. And if you’re not quite there yet, read a few words of other moms who have struggled and know that at the very least, no matter how deeply you feel you are, you are not the only one.

Wishing for blue skies for us all this week.

This week, we are sharing a number of stories, both from our site and others from our sister sites around the country.

My desk is my new favorite corner of our home. It’s my little haven, a place of rest that is personalized just for me, and no one else. It’s also the place I get to dig into our writer’s articles, do a little dreaming for TCMB events and even a little dreaming for myself. Our writers truly put a lot into their articles and we want to be sure you get a chance to see them more often!

Each Sunday, I’ll be sharing a few thoughts and a handful of articles on a specific theme. We’ve had well over 40 writers total in our 2+ years in action and the wisdom, knowledge and tips they’ve shared is wide!
