Stages Theatre Company, in collaboration with Escalate Dance & Theatre Studio, presents The Dot

Celebrate the artist within each of us with Stages Theatre Company’s world premiere production of The Dot. Based on the award-winning book by Peter H. Reynolds, this inspiring tale about the power of the imagination and creativity comes to life on the stage through beautifully crafted music, ballet-inspired dance and interactive projection.

“Just make a mark and see where it takes you.”

The story follows a student, Vashti, discovering her creativity. When Vashti’s teacher asks her to draw a picture, Vashti insists that she’s not an artist and makes an angry dot to prove her point. But when Vashti’s teacher frames her dot and hangs it up, she is sent on a surprising journey of self-discovery. Vashti continues to paint dots, and each dot she creates has a story of its own. Their stories are what Vashti imagines her dots to represent – and, like the imagination of a child, the stories are limitless, creative and fun. With each dot, Vashti’s world becomes clearer, more colorful and much more imaginative. With each painting, Vashti gains more confidence in herself and begins to consider herself as an artist.

We are all artists. And each of us showcases our art as differently as the individual we are. We are, however, often hesitant when it comes to creating our art. The story of The Dot is not just about creating art, but it’s also about taking risks and overcoming the doubts in ourselves.

Directed by Sandy Boren-Barrett and Ann Marie Omeish, The Dot continues Stages Theatre Company’s popular dance performance collaboration with Escalate Dance that brought you Owl Moon, The Mitten, Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Snow Queen.
