Savoring Spring With Your Kids

Savoring Spring With Your Kids | Twin Cities Mom Collective

Here’s to celebrating all of the beautiful spring changes taking place right now! The urge to be outside and enjoy the sunshine is overwhelming for both adults and children. At Kinderberry Hill, we fully embrace all things spring and want to share a few of our favorite springtime activities with you! We hope these ideas spark your inner child as you engage in these activities with your family!

MAKE A BIRDHOUSE

Spring is the perfect time to welcome birds back into our backyards! There are many creative ways to build a birdhouse, from patterned wood kits to a simple hole in a milk carton; your backyard birds will feel welcomed by them all. Take some time to listen and observe the birds, then decide where best to hang this little bird haven.

CELEBRATE THE EXTRA DAYLIGHT

Each spring we successfully move our clocks forward one hour. Take time to enjoy this extra daylight by inviting your child outside after dinner. By kicking the soccer ball, taking a walk around the block, or even reading a bedtime story on the porch, you are helping your child understand this seasonal change, as well as enjoy the extended sunshine early spring brings.

GROW YOUR FAMILY’S FAVORITE VEGETABLE

Venture to your nearest garden center and let your child pick a vegetable to plant, grow, and eat. Start seeds inside and eagerly watch them sprout. Some plants, like peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, can easily be transplanted to a garden when the time is right. However, if you do not have this space, one simple veggie in a good-sized pot is perfect for a meal or two. Once the vegetable is ready to harvest, ask your child to help you search for simple recipes and plan a meal with their veggie as the star! Share their recipe with family and friends.

GO ON A SCAVENGER HUNT

Brainstorm with your children the different changes we might see in spring. Maybe it is buds on trees, green sprouts in the flower bed, colorful birds, or an earthworm. Now, take your list outside and see what you can find! Collect samples of the treasures and create a photo or nature spring collage. You could also use the list that we’ve created.
