Let’s be honest. As parents – single or together – we need a break from the kids once in awhile. Maybe it’s not even a break from the kids as much as it is a break to reconnect with your partner or friends. Sure, some of us might get that time in the work place, but….that’s still work. I’m talking about the let-your-hair-down, get-dolled-up, have-an-uninterrupted-meal-and-cocktail type time.
We were lucky enough to have a night like that in the North Loop not too long ago, and let me tell you – it was fantastic. Hosted by The Loop, the gorgeous tabletop decor was provided by Fleur de Lis and amazing dessert was courtesy of Amy’s Cupcakes. And to top it off, the night was captured by Kaitlin Mackenzie Photography.
We need to talk about the North Loop for a sec. This area is growing like CRAZY and in such a great way. There’s an eclectic mix of high-end restaurants and your long-term tried & true. There are shops going in on what feels like a daily basis. Not to mention the growth of living spaces and coffee houses! This area of Minneapolis is not one to miss.
The Loop provides an ambiance perfectly fitting to what’s going on outside of their doors. There’s a mix of original brick walls and newer exposed industrial ventilation. You can eat by candlelight while watching your favorite team. Their menu ranges from garlic french fries or hummus appetizers to stuffed chicken and grilled mahi mahi main dishes. (Shoutout to the bruschetta and wontons – oh my heavens!) They’re celebrating their 9-Year Anniversary on December 23rd – you’ll probably want to stop by before all your holiday shenanigans start.
Our night had BEAUTIFUL tabletop decor provided by the magical florists of Fleur de Lis in St. Paul. Their European style, coupled with the natural talents of their team, created some of the most beautiful arrangements we’ve seen. They’re located on Selby Ave. in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood, and (wait for it….) they also have a spectacular cafe adjoining the shop! The French Hen Cafe features locally-sourced food and drinks, and the smells of coffee and flowers are enchanting. Even if you don’t buy a thing, we highly recommend poking your head in just for the warm air and relaxing aroma. They’re hosting a wreath making class on December 8th, and it’s not to be missed! Desserts! If you follow TCMB consistently, you know that we are a huge fan of Amy’s Cupcake Shoppe. Not only does she make incredible desserts, she has this down-to-Earth, shining personality that makes the experience of working with her that much more fun. You can tell she puts love and pride into each and every thing she creates, not to mention she does it all while still being a mom!
Though we don’t expect that you’ll have a professional photographer documenting your kid-free nights out (although they might happen so rarely that you feel like you should!), when the time comes to wrangle up those feisty kiddos for some family photos, we’d love to recommend Katie Maurer of Kaitlin Mackenzie Photography.
