Today we are sharing our LOCAL LOVE for Pajamas with Love and it’s Co-Founder Leela Rao!

Tell us all about you! What you do and where your passions lie?

I’m adventurous, curious, student of life, goal-oriented, humoristic and disciplined. Also, I consciously apply lessons learned from past experiences to new challenges. I am passionate about living with purpose, giving back and believe that my work can make a difference.

Tell us all about Pajamas with Love.

I am one of the founding partners of Pajamas with Love established in 2019.

Our pajamas were inspired by my deceased daughter Priyanka, who was brave and courageous during her 4+ year battle with Leukemia. Priyanka brought her own pajamas to the hospital to give her a sense of home and avoid wearing the institutional ones.

Pajamas with Love knows that children have bedtime rituals that play and important role in the process of getting them to sleep. We believe that your child should go to bed wearing a pair of soft, comfy, chemical free pajamas, preparing to dream big and getting excited for a whole new day ahead.

Additionally, 50% of our profits will be donated to Leukemia Lymphoma Society to support pediatric cancer research.

What do you love about the Twin Cities area? Why is it the perfect place for your business?

Moved to the Twin Cities in 1995 and it’s the longest place I’ve lived more than anywhere else in the world, so it’s home. What makes it feel like home are the wonderful people in my life. The reason its the right place for our business is because the inspiration and story belongs in the Twin Cities.

What is the best way for our TCMC community to support your business?

Communities are critical to support a cause! We would like to invite the TCMC community to purchase our pajamas for their kids, friends, co-workers and family. Now let’s talk about your role as a mother and friend. How do you prioritize friendships and connections with women?

I live life aligned to my 5 core values. Friendships are one of my values, so it is priority. I spend time with women through networking, mentoring, activity clubs, dinners, ladies night out, travel etc. A world without my girlfriends would be a very lonely place.

Being a mom is no easy task in and of itself. How do you relax and take care of you?

Relaxing does not come easy to me. However, cleaning and cooking are kind of relaxing for me. I take care of myself by exercising, love long walks with a podcast but even more when I have a friend join me.

What’s been your greatest joy in motherhood?

My experience with motherhood is complex, filled with joy, gratitude, love, yet eclipsed with extreme sorrow. My greatest joy is the fact that I was blessed with 2 children. I have a wonderful son whose life journey I am getting to witness and it’s a super cool experience. Even though my daughter is no longer with us, having her as part of our family, was a joy and a priceless gift.

How do you hope your lives influence and/or inspire other women?

If there is one thing, I could inspire a woman to do, it would be to “be in the moment or seize the moment” with your kid/s or loved one/s. Life is too short.

Kim Mortensen is the Co-Owner of Twin Cities Mom Collective. She has held many different titles throughout her life including, teacher, fundraiser, coach, and marketing professional. However, the titles held most dear to her are wife and mom. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Alex, and together they have three kids, Lucia (10), Ellia (9), and Decker (7). Kim is passionate about connecting women through the journey of motherhood, normalizing the hardships and challenges that come with the territory, and finding moments of joy and celebration in between.
