The Instagram Mom

There’s always been this vision of a what we become when we become moms. You know… mom jeans. Mom haircut. All around kind of “uncool.” People think we lose ourselves in motherhood and we have not much else to give the world. We are exhausted and overwhelmed and full of snot and drool.

While on some days, I do feel like a complete mess. I’ve also realized I can still be a mom and rock somewhat of a cool factor.

And we are in a whole new realm of motherhood. The world of Instagram Moms. They are all over the place and they are so freakin’ cool! The really neat thing about Instagram is that we can find community there. I have met some very precious friends through Instagram. Some who have remained friends via the internet, some who I have met in person, and some who I have done some fun collaborations with.

We can definitely view it as a place where comparison overtakes us. Or where we get annoyed with other people’s “highlight reels.” We can make bad assumptions about people or we can see them as authentic individual human beings. When I see a fellow mom’s beautiful Instagram feed, I get all googly eyed and see what I can glean from her. I can use it as an opportunity to grow and learn from either her captions, lifestyle choices, fashion or beautiful photography skills.

In a way, Instagram moms have made “mommin'” pretty cool. Like we can still be hip and stylish while rocking a home cooked meal and changing diapers. We can be real, raw and find companionship along the journey. We have a space to share our lives, share our kids, and find friends. We can find moms we relate with and moms who expand our own mindset. We can ask for advice, encourage one another and share awesome mommy products we love.

Some of my favorite moms to follow have the prettiest photos and add some humor to their posts. It’s a breath of fresh air to run across their posts (or hey, turn on post notifications!) They share the real and raw. The nitty and gritty. And the pits and peaks. They all have their own flow and flavor and I appreciate their space on the world wide web.

I’m excited to share some of my favs with you!
