I am a Twin Cities Mom: Amy Bizal

Today’s I am a Twin Cities Mom feature is all about Amy Bizal!

“Hello, I’m Amy Bizal. I am a busy mom to three and a wife to one of the most supportive men I know. My life can be a little hectic sometimes but I have found that embracing the chaos makes things go a lot smoother. When I’m not being house manager or peace coordinator I am fortunate enough to be a yoga instructor to expecting mamas, postpartum moms, those just beginning yoga, and kids. I find such joy in helping women love themselves at every season of life and helping kids connect to themselves and their emotions through mindfulness and meditation.”

What do you love about calling the Twin Cities home?

I grew up in a small town and found that my kids and myself didn’t have as many opportunities as I would like them to have. I fell in love with the diversity that the Twin Cities has to offer and that you can meet someone new and interesting at every corner.

If we peeked in your purse right now, what would we find?

I am somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to my purse. If I’m not carrying around my diaper bag I tend to only grab my wallet with some lipstick, my phone, and my one key for the car.

How do you prioritize friendships and connections with other women?

I literally write it into my planner. I have found that connections with other women is something that is important to me and my balance in life. I make it a priority to schedule one or two friend dates a month. I have also found that when I lift other women up I am also lifting myself up. When I see any women on social or in life rocking it or inspiring me I am sure to let them know. I have recently made it a point to compliment random women when I’m out and about. You never know how that compliment could change someone’s day. Plus it feels good to do it.

Being a mom is no easy task. How do you relax and take care of you?

This has been something that has taken a long time to figure out. I use to give to my kids more than myself and found that my mental health was taking a huge hit because of it. If I know that I need that break I typically head to a yoga class in a studio or schedule a date with a girlfriend. I have also made it a point recently to do a little more self care each month. I recently did a facial peel that was amazing! Then I started incorporating hair masks into my monthly routine. It’s amazing how doing something so simple for yourself can leave you feeling so much more complete.

What’s been your greatest joy in motherhood?

Watching my children learn and grow into their true authentic selves. I love that each child is unique and special in their own individual way.

What have you found most challenging in your motherhood journey?

Making sure that I stay present with my kids and not allow triggers to affect how I parent. It’s easy to get caught up in all the to-dos or feel like I need to do more for them but I know that when I’m present more they seem happier and I’m able to enjoy my time with them more. When it comes to behavior if I’m able to disconnect my own previous trauma or triggers from their behavior I find that we are able to come to an understanding a lot quicker.

How do you hope your life influences and/or inspires other women?

I inspire to help women feel strong, confident, and empowered in themselves at all times.
