How To Host A Favorite Things Party!

How To Host A Favorite Things Party! | Twin Cities Moms Blog

This year, I crossed something off of my bucket list.

I hosted a Favorite Things Party!

What is a Favorite Things Party, you ask? Well, let me tell you!It involves a bunch of girlfriends, some wine or maybe even a cocktail or two, and everyone brings and leaves with a bag of favorite things.

You’ve got to try it!

Invitations. First, I sent out an invitation. E-vite was the easiest way for me to do this, but a paper invitation would also be fabulous. I think I invited around 14 friends, and worded it something like this:

You’re invited to Nealy’s Favorite Things Party! Think of something you LOVE that costs under $6. Bring five of that item. We will draw names and everyone will leave with five amazing new finds! Also bring your FAVORITE appetizer, dessert, or wine to share. Can’t wait to see you there!

A Theme. After invitations were sent, I decided on a theme – I went with gold glitter and black-and-white stripes. I found some plain white goody bags at Michael’s Craft Store, and printed off some coordinating tags to tie on the bag with ribbon (feel free to download my printable tags by clicking here). This way, everyone had a cute bag to bring their favorite things home in. I also had some black-and-white-striped fabric I had previously found at Ikea that I used as a tablecloth. I lit some candles and placed fresh flowers around the house. A chalkboard saying My Favorite Things was also part of the decor. All pretty easy, so let the party begin!

Food and Drinks. Next, it was time for the party! I made Cucumber Margaritas as a signature cocktail (my recipe is below in case you are interested), and we had plenty of yummy food to go around since everyone brought their favorite appetizer, dessert, or bottle of wine to share.

What’s Your Favorite Thing? About half-way through the party, we went around and each guest explained what their favorite thing was, Oprah-style. Since everyone brought five of the same item, everyone wrote their name down in a bowl five times. Then the drawing began!

I had so much fun hosting this party, I hope to make it an annual thing! You should totally try it with your friends! You won’t regret it, I promise.

Cucumber Margarita Recipe

  • 1 12-oz can Minutemaid frozen limeade
  • 12 oz tequila
  • 6 oz triple sec
  • 1/4 c powdered sugar
  • 1 cucumber, 1/2 mostly peeled for blending, other half sliced for garnish
  • 1/2 bottle of any light beer
  • sliced lime, for garnish

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until well combined. Pour in glasses over ice and garnish with slices of lime and cucumber. Enjoy!

Knowing my friends, we’d end up with only wine to drink without appetizers or dessert! This sounds fun and easy – I’m going to try it for sure, thanks!

What a great idea. I’m going to give this a try as soon as the pandemic is over. Thanks for explaining how you did it.
