Go, See, Explore: French Regional Park

French Regional Park in Plymouth, MN is a great place to check out whether you have a couple of hours or an entire day to explore! As part of the Three Rivers Park District, there are so many ways to outdoor adventure, whether you’re looking for a playground, trails, sledding, or water sports. There are also plenty of picnic areas, making it a perfect spot for birthday parties and get-togethers. There’s so much available that you can spend an entire day here alone—or really make a day of it by hitting up one of the many other parks nearby!

The play area is truly epic. It was renovated in 2016 and features plenty of slides, nets, swings, and towers to climb and explore. 

Water Sports

The spacious swim area opens every year on Memorial Day weekend. The sandy beach is just as much fun as the water! There are restrooms and a changing area on-site. Please note there is no lifeguard on duty.

If you’re looking for other water fun, the lake is also open for boating, fishing, and kayaking/canoeing. Heads up: daily and annual parking passes are required for boat trailers.

Trails

The park features 4.6 miles of trails for biking and dog-walking, and 10.6 miles of trails for summer hiking. 

Winter Fun

Once there are 2-3 inches of snowfall, you can find a 2.7-mile cleared trail for hiking. There are separate areas and trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. And for the kids, there’s a lighted sledding hill near the Visitor Center.

Fees

None! French Regional Park is free and open to the public.

Good to Know Before You Go

  • Bathrooms are located inside the Visitor Center, near the playground.
  • Concessions are also available for purchase in the Visitor Center.
  • The play area features two water misters. Great for a hot day, but you might need swimsuits or towels on the way home!
  • There are all sorts of rentals available through the Three Rivers Park District. Everything from bikes to kayaks to snowshoes are available for adventuring!
