6 Ways CostCo Has Helped Raise My Kids

6 Ways CostCo Has Helped Raise My Kids | Twin Cities Moms Blog

Ask me how my love affair with Costco began and I’ll tell you about the best wedding gift we received. A friend of ours was working at CostCo at the time and gave us a membership. Genius. May seem like an odd wedding gift, but we used it allthetime and for allthethings.

But when we moved out of our apartment and into our first home in the south metro, the closest Costco was over a half hour away. So we let our membership expire.

A few years later we were planning to expand our family, and so was Costco. They were adding a new location in Burnsville! We eagerly signed up for a membership and let the savings roll in. But it wasn’t until we had kids that we really saw the value of Costco. Through the past four years, Costco has really helped us save a lot of money as parents. Here are 6 ways Costco has helped raise our kids and save us money!

  1. Kirkland Baby Formula. Like most moms, I had visions of breastfeeding my babies. Unfortunately, it’s just not in the cards for some moms and that’s okay! Fed is best. Despite my best efforts, both my kids ended up being mostly formula fed. And both eventually transitioned to Kirkland Baby Formula, which worked great for us!
  2. Kirkland Diapers and Wipes. While Costco was filling their bellies, my kids were filling their diapers. As our eldest potty trained, we also bought our pull-ups and flushable wipes (they say only flush 1 wipe at a time) at Costco along with their toilet paper.
  3. Kirkland Pouches and Organic Products. From organic pouches to organic Annie’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese,Costco’s been filling my kids bellies since the beginning and continue to do so! The biggest reason we shop atCostco and what makes them stand apart is their organic products. If the only reason you don’t eat organic is because it’s so darn expensive, snag this discounted membership price and go toCostco. They sell the most organic products in the country–more than Whole Foods! And the reason is because PEOPLE CAN AFFORD IT. Seriously, I’ve crunched the numbers, and some of other store’s non-organic products cost the same as CostCo’s organic ones. We regularly get their eggs, milk, and bread, but they also have organic meats, cheeses, and butter.
  4. Clothes. Argh, they sucker me in with their clothes all. the. time. In fact, in the last month or so we’ve bought Snoozu coats for both our kids, fleece pajamas, my husband got undershirts, and I got a grey Calvin Klein sweater for $20 that I wear pretty much every day. And maybe all our underwear is fromCostco…
  5. Kirkland Coffee. Because I can’t parent without it. We’ve tried both their large cans of coffee (100% Colombian Supremo Ground Coffee), their Breakfast Blend K-cups (they have other kinds online if you like something darker), Dunkin Donuts Original Blend ground coffee, and a couple other varieties of K-cups, including an organic one.
  6. Kirkland WINE. It’s Costco, people. They have everything, even their own wine. I currently have a bottle of Kirkland Chardonnay in my fridge. If you’re on the fence about getting a membership go check out their liquor store because you don’t need a membership to shop there! But be careful, the wine and liquor prices are a gateway drug in the glory that is Costco.

While Costco is awesome if you have kids, it’s also just awesome. Here’s a quick list of everything I can think of currently in our house from Costco:

Batteries, carseat, under cabinet lighting, organic olive oil, seasonings, water bottles, coffee, vanilla, protein powder, organic carrots, cheese, shredded cheese, string cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, organic eggs, bread, lunch meat, kefir, organic fruit, organic whole milk, pesto, paper towels, kitty liter, flushable wipes, baby wipes, amazingly delicious dill pickle popcorn, pull-ups, english muffins, black olives, organic coconut sugar, organic flax meal, organic chia seeds, organic coconut oil, organic animal crackers, organic maple syrup, almonds, body wash, wine, ibuprofen, vitamins, chicken breast, toilet paper, 2 fall plant arrangements, a soft play mat, a globe, a couple cookbooks, and oh so many clothes including an Anna costume for Halloween this year.

A Costco membership is a steal normally, you’ll save the cost of your membership, plus much more on just organic products! Trust me, I know, they keep telling us to upgrade our membership because we use it so often. But Costco is offering a special discounted membership just for you, and while you should absolutely check out Mom Hour on November 4th, it’s okay if you can’t because you can still get the discounted membership price! And if you are planning on attending, I highly recommend snagging the membership ahead of time so you have less paperwork to fill out when you get there, especially if you have yours kids with you. Just sign up below, print it out and redeem your membership in store between October 14th and November 4th. Happy shopping!
