Yes, it’s still winter, but there’s so much to do in the Twin Cities! We hope you’ll use this guide to find all the fun February has to offer! We’ll update with new additions as they come.

February 1: Parent Child Cross-Country Skiing Lesson | 2:00-4:00pm Learn the basic skills of classic-style cross-country skiing in a family-friendly environment. Ages: 5 and older. $15 a person.

February 1: Home Depot Kids Workshop | 9:00am-12:00pm Create a loving memory with your child at our Heart String Art Workshop. As you help your child piece together the symbol of Valentine’s Day, they will develop hands-on skills by sanding, nailing, painting and more. Celebrate the moment as your child makes a unique keepsake. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

February 1: Let It Go! | 10:00-11:30am Calling all princes and princesses! Embark on a journey to discover your inner magical powers. Tame the spirits of Air, Fire, Earth and Water to restore peace to the land. You will hike through the wintry landscape, craft ice sculptures from frozen fractals, learn about the howling wind, and build a campfire. This program is designed for kids ages 4+. Please come dressed for the weather. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Adults are free.

February 1: Apple Valley Mid Winter Fest | 10:00am-2:00pm The Apple Valley Mid-Winter Fest is a celebration of winter. This annual festival began in 1978 with only a few activities and perhaps 100 participants. The festival has grown significantly since then. Skating, medallion hunt, face painting, DJ, dance contest, concessions and more!

February 1: February Fest in Chanhassen | 12:00-3:00pm Activities include a medallion hunt throughout the week ahead, ice skating, a s’mores cookout on a roaring bonfire, sledding, horse-drawn wagon rides, dog sled rides, fat tire bike demonstrations, door prizes, concessions, and of course, the ever-popular ice fishing contest, with over 1,000 fishing holes drilled in the ice & fabulous prizes!

February 1: Plymouth Fire & Ice Winter Festival | 3:00-7:00pm This family-friendly event has it all! Hayrides, hockey, snow bowling, fireworks, character appearances, pony and sled dog rides, mini golf on the ice, and more! Hot chocolate and s’mores will be available to warm you up!

February 1 & 2: 2020 Chinese New Year Celebration | 12:00-5:00pm Together the Chinese + American audiences will celebrate the Chinese New Year, “Year of the Rat,” + share a Chinese cultural experience in an atmosphere of festive joy. The Chinese New Year Celebration will be composed of rich cultural presentations, brilliant artistic performances and gorgeous Chinese New Year decor. We hope you can join us to celebrate the “Year of the Rat!”

February 1 & 2: Luminary Loppet: A Celebration of Winter in Minnesota | Times Vary The City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival is a multi-day celebration of cross-country skiing and winter fun for the whole family! All City of Lakes Loppet Festival point-to-point events will begin at the Chain of Lakes in Uptown and finish at The Trailhead in Theodore Wirth Regional Park. All participants and spectators alike will be able to enjoy all that the festival has to offer in a centralized location. New in 2020 is a broom ball tournament and a Fat Bike Tour. Come take part in a new tradition! And, as always, come enjoy the Surly Brewing Co. Beer Garden and Block Party.

February 2: Groundhog Day Celebration | 1:00-3:00pm Can a groundhog really predict the coming season? Will it be an early spring or six more weeks of winter? Come celebrate a day of weather forecasting woodchucks with art, games and activities. Hike the park with a naturalist to see if our resident woodchucks have been out to make their own predictions. Free!

February 7: Culture Connection – Lunar New Year | 6:30-8:00pm Come and join us for this quaint evening celebration at East Phillips. We will have crafts, refreshments and a few more activities for the youth to celebrate Lunar New Year. This is the perfect sampler event to gain a little exposure as we celebrate a bit of Asian culture. Bring your friends to help us celebrate.

February 7 & 8 : Wayzata Chilly Open | Times Vary Golfing in February on Frozen Lake Minnetonka? You Betcha! The largest, most well-known and unusual golf tournament held on a frozen lake.

February 7-9: Frozen Jr. | Times Vary From the beloved 2013 Academy Award-winning Disney film, this is the timeless tale of two sisters pulled apart by a mysterious secret. Both are searching for love. They just don’t know where to find it. Held at Forest Lake High School.

February 8: Wonders of Winter in Maple Grove | 11:00am-3:00pm Enjoy activities such as snowshoeing, kicksledding, wagon rides, ice sculptures, storytelling by fire, Nordic walking, photo booths, s’mores and more!

February 8: Kites on Ice Festival | 11:00am-3:00pm Experienced show kite flyers from Minnesota and the Midwest will demonstrate their skills with kites of all colors, shapes and sizes. See a precision sport kites team performing amazing aerial ballet with their kites.  It’s a sight to behold!

February 8: WinterFest | 1:00-3:00pm Join us at Loring Park for a fun winter celebration featuring free hot cocoa, s’mores, bonfire, skating, music, crafts, face painting, carriage rides and so much more! Free!

February 8: Tech Fest @ The Works Museum | 10:00am-4:00pm Get ready to dive into the world of technology and engineering at The Works Museum’s annual Tech Fest family event. With dozens of hands-on activities led by real scientists, engineers, and educators, families can spend the day learning and exploring together. Whether it’s exploring solar power, trying their hand at biomedical engineering, or programming robots, kids will leave inspired and excited about engineering!

February 8 & 9: Healthy Life Expo | 10:00am-5:00pm Nutrition, Fitness, and Longevity – It’s all here! Explore up to 180+ exhibitors offering everything for better health and wellness, in all areas of life! Visit the 3 Stages with seminars are demos running every hour, both days! Hear the experts share their knowledge with you! All seminars and demos are hosted inside the Expo Hall and free to attend with your ticket into the show.

February 9: Family Fun: Feed the Animals | 1:00-3:00pm Explore through hands-on activities that everyone can enjoy at their own pace. Drop in anytime. Free. Ages: All.

February 9: Kids Fest | 11:00am-2:30pm Join the City of Minnetonka for a day of winter fun. All activities are free; concessions will be available for purchase. There are both indoor and outdoor activities – please dress accordingly. Activities include: dog sled rides, DJ, face painting, s’mores, STEM activities, ice carving, horse-drawn trolley rides, and more!

February 9: The Puppet Adventures of Ned the Naturalist | 1:00-3:00pm Follow Ned the Nerdy Naturalist as he saves nature from Trasher the Trash Can. Try a take-home art activity after the show inspired by art work currently in the gallery or on the trail. Explore and find art work all around Silverwood. Puppet show begins promptly at 1PM and is performed by youth volunteers. Free. Ages: All.

February 10: Ladies Bouldering Night | 6:00-8:00pm Come one come many to the all women, ONLY women, evening of bouldering in the Cave! Shannon, member of the American Alpine Club, will be on hand to answer questions and help provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere. All abilities welcome from the, “I’ve never done this before”, to those who want to set routes, and everyone in-between. Minimum age 15. Climbing shoe rental is $3.

February 14 & 15: Kids at the Castle: Hearts and Hugs | 9:00-10:00am Spend Valentine’s Day weekend with your family and ASI and celebrate the holiday by playing in the Castle together. This month’s playdate will feature stories, circle time, songs and festive crafts all related to love!

February 15: Monster Jam | 7:00pm Monster Jam® is adrenaline-charged family entertainment providing jaw-dropping displays and gravity-defying feats that promises to always leave fans entertained. Monster Jam events feature some of the most recognizable trucks in the world including Grave Digger®, Max-D, El Toro Loco® and many more. Our world-class drivers push these perfectly engineered Monster Jam trucks to their limits in Freestyle, “2-Wheel Skills” and Racing competitions that will put families on the edge of their seats and leave them craving more of this unexpected, unscripted and unforgettable event!

February 15: Embrace the North Festival | 12:00-4:00pm Celebrate living in the land of winter with friends and family. Try activities like snowshoeing, dog sledding, winter games, fat biking, enjoying snacks around a campfire, and more! Open and FREE to all ages!

February 17: Women’s Climbing 101 | 6:00-8:00pm Women, take yourself to new heights and learn the ropes through hands-on experience in our Climbing Cave. Wear comfortable clothing and get ready to soar! All equipment provided. Led by member of the American Alpine Club, Shannon. Pre-registration required – limited to 10 participants. Cost $5, no refunds. Minimum age 15.

February 18: Teddy Bear Story Time | 10:00-11:00am Young visitors are invited to bring their teddy bears to the Hill House to celebrate Presidents Day and the beloved toy named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, a friend of the Hill family who they visited at the White House. A tour of the house will be combined with favorite teddy bear stories. This tour is designed for preschool through first grade children accompanied by an adult.

February 22: Winter Beer Dabbler | 3:00-6:30pm The Winter Beer Dabbler is the biggest outdoor beer festival in Minnesota. With unlimited samples of the nation’s best craft beer, great live music, and fun activities, the Winter Beer Dabbler is a true celebration of winter in Minnesota.

February 28: Winter Family Fun Fest | 6:00-8:00pm Join Rosemount Parks and Recreation for a night of FREE family fun in the Gymnasium and Arena at the Rosemount Community Center. Activities include music, inflatable jumpies and slides, carnival games, ice skating, plus much more. Open ice skating is also available from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Sorry, skate rental is not available; please bring your own skates to the event.)

February 29: Phalen Freeze Fest | 1:00-4:00pm Bundle up and join us on Lake Phalen for an annual celebration of winter. Activities include ice fishing, fire building, arts & crafts, cooking over a fire, snow shoeing, story stroll, and more! Please dress for the weather as most activities are outdoors. Free warm beverages will be available.

February 29: Party in the Club 2020 | 10:30am-11:30am Party in the Club is back again! Warm up your winter with three free winter parties for kids & their families to get out of the house and MOVE. Hoppy Leap Day! Get ready to jump, hop and leap around followed by Family Yoga with our fitness instructor, Lindsy!

Every Saturday in FebruaryEagan Parkrun | 9:00am This free weekly timed 5K event takes place at Thomas Lake Park.

February 8: Valentine’s Day TC 5K | 10:00am The Valentine’s Day TC 5K, presented by Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is at Lake Nokomis! Give a warm embrace to outdoor running through Minnesota’s tough winters with this fun tradition.

February 10: Valentines 5K | 10:00am Run or walk around Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, MN on USATF certified 5k course with family & friends and then returning to optional Complimentary Claddagh Irish Pub & Restaurant for Breakfast & Beer, cold and hot light beverages, Valentines and Irish Music & More Irish Hospitality!

February 15: Cupid’s Undie Run | 11:00-3:00pm This February, be a part of Cupid’s Undie Run, a “brief,” mile(ish) fun run that takes place in the middle of a BIG party – all to find a cure for neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic tumor disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 births. We run in our undies because those affected with NF can’t cover up their tumors to feel more comfortable, so why should we? So start a team of your friends, join a team, or run solo, just come out, have a blast, and raise some money for NF research (and earn some cool fundraising rewards too!).

February 16: Hypothermic 1/2 Marathon | 9:00am The Annual Hypothermic Half Marathon is a winter half marathon event held in beautiful winter cities across Canada and Rochester, Minnesota. This year, the marathon is held in Maple Grove. The Hypothermic Run Set features a commemorative Hypothermic Half package from the Running Room, complimentary brunch, and a unique finishers medal!

Join us for a Moms’ Morning Out at Projects in Person – PIP! Grab your girlfriends and snag tickets to our Brunch & Build event, for a morning of socializing, yummy food & coffee, building your choice of a 3 bottle wine holder or a 3 hook wall coat/towel rack with the PIP crew, and, of course, swag and giveaways! More details to come but be sure to save the date on your calendar!

Sensory Friendly Play at Urban Air Adventure Park  | Select days, see event calendar An event specifically designed for children with Autism and special needs to enjoy time at the park without loud music, flashing lights and to have a lot of fun! See calendar for timing and details.

Sensory Jump Night @ Pump It Up Third Tuesday of Every Month | During this evening event, the play areas are reserved for kids on the autism spectrum and their families. Kids have a great time meeting new friends. Jump, slide and play with sensory-friendly games in a safe and controlled atmosphere.

Sensory-Friendly Story Time Second Thursday of Every Month | 9:30am Story Time will take place before the store opens to the general public. No music until after the store opens…except for the songs we’ll sing together! Small fidget objects will be available for children to hold if they choose. There will be a clear schedule for story time with visual cues. As with all of our storytimes, this is a no judgment zone! We all have unique needs and ways of expressing ourselves, and we at Wild Rumpus welcome and celebrate those differences.

TPT Second Saturdays Sensory-Friendly Hour | Each month TPT opens up our studios in Lowertown St. Paul for a morning of PBS Kids cartoons on the big screen, meet & greets with PBS Kids characters like Daniel Tiger, Sid the Science Kid, and Buddy the Dinosaur, and fun activities like instrument making and carnival games. If that weren’t enough, the SciGirls squad are always on hand with all sorts of STEM-related games and activities to educate your child.

Sensory-Friendly AMC Movies Second and Fourth Saturday of Every Month | Times Vary AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where we turn the lights up, and turn the sound down so you can get up, dance, walk, shout or sing! Our Sensory Friendly Film program is available on the second and fourth Saturday (family-friendly) and Tuesday evenings (mature audiences) of every month.

Sensory Sensitive Sundays at Chuck E. Cheese February 2nd  | 8:00am Chuck E. Cheese in Woodbury is proud to support families who have children with autism and other special needs. They offer a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of every month, opening two hours before their normal opening time. Their Sensory Sensory events include a trained and caring staff that work to ensure each guest has a fun-filled visit. They realize that the Chuck E. experience can be very stimulating for any child, so our mission is to create an event that allows ALL kids to be a kid.

Sensory-Friendly Night at Cheap Skate February 4th  | 6:00pm Cheap Skate has a partnership with the Autism Society of Minnesota in creating a night a of family fun with a sensory friendly atmosphere every first Tuesday evening of each month from 6 pm to 9 pm! What does that mean? No flashing lights, no fog, no loud music. These skating and bouncing sessions are designed for those with special needs in mind. Wheelchairs are always welcomed, as well as parents walking on the skating floor to help.

The Dot at Stages Theater ASL Interpreted Performance February 8 | 10:00am “Just make a dot and see where it takes you.” When Vashti’s teacher asks her to draw a picture, Vashti insists she’s not an artist and makes an angry dot to prove her point. But when Vashti’s teacher frames her dot and hangs it up, Vashti is sent on a surprising journey of self-discovery. This charming fable about the power of the creative spirit comes to life through music and dance this winter with continuing collaboration with Escalate Dance.

Sensory-Friendly Movies at Marcus Theatre February 15 | 10:30am We understand that sometimes it is difficult or uncomfortable for families with special needs children to attend movies together. Marcus Theatre’s Reel Movies for Reel Needs is a specially designed program to serve families with special needs such as autism or other challenges, who seldom attend movies. Reel Movies for Real Needs creates a welcoming and comfortable environment – lower sound, lights up – where families with children who need accommodations will be able to share the experience of seeing family-friendly films at a theatre. A select first run movie is featured one Saturday each month at a convenient 10:30 AM showtime.

Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds January 19th-March 1st | Times Vary Ziggy’s afraid to leave the house. He’s too busy worrying about tropical storms, evil spirits, and a sneaky, freaky, hair-grabbing Duppy! But, with the help of some feathered friends, Ziggy learns “every little thing is gonna be alright.” A musical that jams Jamaican style, it’s a timeless tale of peace and love, and of course, Bob Marley, man.

Toddler Tuesdays at MOA Tuesdays | 10:00am-12:00pm Toddler Tuesdays is a program that provides events, free entertainment, and discounts, especially for toddlers. Events include special character appearances, arts and crafts, story time and much more! FREE.

Storytime with Engineer Paul at Choo Choo Bob’s Train Store Tuesdays | 10:00am Engineer Paul hosts a storytime full of songs and smiles. Afterward, enjoy the morning exploring and playing with the various train sets and tables at this fun train store. FREE.

Wee Wednesdays at Midtown Global Market Wednesdays | 10:30am Wee Wednesdays showcase free educational programming, fun crafts, and great meal deals each Wednesday morning at Midtown Global Market!
 Dance with them, experience live puppet theater, learn to cook fun items together in the kitchen, and even pet live animals from the Como Zoo. FREE.

Tots & Trains at Minnesota Transportation Museum 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month | 10am-12pm Explore the Jackson Street Roundhouse & Museum with your little one. Check out their open play area full of train tables. Create a themed craft to take home. Cuddle up and listen to a train-themed story read by one of the museum’s passionate volunteers. Snacks for the kids and coffee for the parents are provided.

Kids at the Castle: Third Friday Playdates (American Swedish Institute) | 9:00 Mark your calendars for the third Friday (and selected Saturdays) of every month for this action-packed kids and family creative playtime. Join us for circle time, storytelling, crafts, visual play, music and movement in the Turnblad Mansion. Suggested for ages 2-5. Adults must accompany children.

Free First Saturdays at Walker Art Center 1st Saturday of every month | 10:00am-3:00pm Free First Saturdays feature free gallery admission on the first Saturday of every month, plus performances, games, art-making, and kid’s films from 10 am to 3 pm. Family friendly food options are available or bring something from home to snack on in the lounge or in the garden.

Free Crafts for Kids at Lakeshore Learning Saturdays | 11:00am-3:00pm Ages 3 and up. No reservations necessary.

MIA Family Day 2nd Sunday of every month | Times Vary On the second Sunday of every month, you’ll have a blast making art, going on artful adventures, meeting local musicians, dancers, and storytellers, and more at the Minnesota Institute of Art! FREE.

Three Rivers Park District: FREE Family Fun Days Sundays | 1-3pm Explore through hands-on activities that everyone can enjoy at their own pace. Drop in anytime. Held at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park.
