Every year when February rolls around, I always think how short the month is. We’ve got President’s Day and, of course, Valentine’s Day… For our family, we also celebrate my husband’s birthday later in the month.
With love in the air throughout the entire month, my first inclination is to plan lots of festive activities for everyone. There is always something romantic for us adults and something cute and lovable at home with the kids as well, in addition to their school activities. We like making Valentine’s for grandparents and cousins, and you can always find us in the kitchen making Valentine’s Day treats.
As the years go by and the kids get older and more independent, I find myself also thinking about ways I should treat myself during this short but sweet month aside from the usual flowers, cards, wine and chocolates received from loved ones as we celebrate. I’ve come to realize, I want to do something for myself too. So I’ve decided I want to make February my designated self-love month.
Because us moms are important too! Here are just a few ideas to get you thinking about ways to encourage yourself this month.
A Mom’s Guide To Self-Love in February
Do something fun and cute for your physical self.
Of course, I’m not thinking of getting rid of my favorite pj’s and replacing them with fancy clothes, but I may get a new t-shirt or skin cream. I want to feel like I’m doing a little extra for myself.
Here are a few more ideas for physical self-love:
- Get a haircut or update your hair color
- Buy a new nail polish color or get a Mani & Pedi
- Get some bath bombs
- Get new perfume or start a facial regimen
- Start a new exercise routine
- Drink more water
- Move your body
- Eat two different colors of fruit and vegetable each day
Do something amazing for your mental space.
Whether you take some alone time in the bathroom every day for 10 minutes or you sign yourself up to learn a new skill or hobby, it will be such a satisfying feeling as you embark on something for you, dearest mama. It’s about making your mental health a priority. Here are some of my favorite ways to boost my mental self-love.

- Read a book: you can find an amazing list of self-love books here
- Learn or continue your yoga practice: tons of free yoga classes are on YouTube
- Go to Target: it’s my go-to place when I’ve had a rough day – don’t judge me!
Check your heart and your health.
When was the last time you had a physical examination, mama? February is National Heart Health month. As moms, we tend to dedicate our focus and care on others within our families. This February I challenge each of you to not dismiss yourself and go get a physical if you haven’t had one in the past year. Do this for you!
