2022 Twin Cities Spring Events

We are embracing spring in the Twin Cities with family fun activities involving farms, parks, egg hunts, and Earth Day. We’ve worked to help you keep your sanity by bringing these March, April and May activities all together in one easy guide so you don’t miss a thing! Feb 27 – March 27 – Something Happened in Our Town at Children’s Theatre Company – Minneapolis Times vary “Check out the Children’s Theatre Company Original World Premiere Production of Something Happened in Our Town!

March 25 – Family Adventure Mode: Natural Resource Challenge – Osseo 4:00 PM Select a challenge to complete and use a custom map of the terrain to collect tokens of raw materials and learn about Minnesota’s natural resources. This adventure is entirely outdoors and family groups will choose their own route.

March 25 – Kids Free Play – Minneapolis 10am – 12pm We will be beginning a Kids Free Play program on Fridays from 10am-12pm. This will include unstructured and child-initiated activities. We are excited to offer a free service during the day for stay-at-home parents and children to play and connect together.

March 4 – 20 – Tuck Everlasting @ Stages Theatre Company – Hopkins Times vary This TYA version of the popular Broadway musical adaptation of Natalie Babbitt’s classic novel graces their main stage with live music. For ages 7 and up.

March 12 – March 27 – Matilda The Musical – Lakeville Times vary Matilda is an elementary-aged bookworm with a TV-worshiping dad and self-obsessed mum. Her home life leads her to the local library where she recites stories of acrobatic performers who long for a child. When Matilda starts school, she sends herself enrolled under the evil Headmistress Miss Trunchbull. When Miss Trunchbull’s backwards teaching tactics go too far, it’s up to Matilda to save the day. This unforgettable tale combines upbeat music with snappy choreography and a touch of dark humor. Matilda teaches audiences that “even if you’re little you can do a lot.” Most enjoyed by audiences age 3rd grade through adult.

March 25 & 26 – Babies at the Castle – Minneapolis 9:15am – 10am Leave your strollers at the door and carry your baby through ASI’s exhibition, Paper Dialogues, before it opens to the general public. Tours are approximately 30 minutes followed by an additional 15 minutes of sensory play. All mamas, papas, and grandparents, as well as loving adults, are invited to enjoy a fun and meaningful experience with their baby. Designed for babies from newborn up to 18 months and their caregivers. Tours also include a wooden teether for each baby.

March 27 – April 10 – Sugar Coated Floral Experience – Edina All day Treat yourself to a taste of spring with a sugarcoated twist at this year’s Galleria Floral Experience, with flowers by Bachman’s. This free, 15-day experience is assured to satisfy any sweet tooth with mall-wide blooming gardens, featuring candy-inspired installations. Guests can explore this sweeter side of spring at their leisure any time the shopping center is open to the public during the event time frame.

April 1 – Forever Wild Family Friday: April Showers – Eagan 6pm – 7:30pm In April, learn how spring precipitation wakes up the forest and brings fresh blooms through games, stories, and activities. Age: All ages. Fee: Free.

April 1 – Easter Witches, Feathers, and Fun Preschool Program – Minneapolis 2pm – 3:30pm What’s a Swedish påskkärring!? Come find out through dance, storytelling, exploration, and craft! Adult accompaniment is required. With ASI’s preschool programs, explore Swedish (and Swedish-American) traditions with your little one. Together we’ll answer the questions of “What do Swedish families do throughout the year?” and “Why do they do it.” This program is specifically designed for children ages 3-5 and their important adults.

April 1 – April 3 – Spring Festival : An Arts and Crafts Affair – Shakopee Times Vary Hundreds of the nation’s finest artists and crafters will display and sell their work at the Spring Festival, An Arts & Crafts Affair! The event, which runs from April 1 – 3, has been voted one of the top 100 shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. The expo features hourly gift certificate drawings, food and drink, free parking, and lots of family fun!

April 5 – Spring Break Mini Handcraft Camp (K-3) – Minneapolis 9am – 3pm Spend part of your Spring Break creating fun and useful objects inspired by Scandinavian handcraft. Campers will leave with handmade items and new skills. Suitable for youth grades K-3. Campers must bring their own lunch and wear clothes appropriate for outdoor play. Advance registration required.

April 6 – Spring Break Mini Handcraft Camp (4th – 6th grade) – Minneapolis 9am – 3pm Spend the day at ASI creating unique and useful objects inspired by Scandinavian handcraft. April 6 – Spring Break: Egg-scape Room – Minneapolis 2:30pm – 4:30pm If your child enjoys being a detective then this is the day for them! You will attempt to “escape the camp” through games, puzzles, riddles, logic and more. After learning about cryptology and cryptography, groups will plan, build and run their own escape rooms for all to enjoy. The theme is gonna be eggs to welcome spring!

April 7 – April 9 – Junk Bonanza – Shakopee Times Vary The Bonanza is the place for antiquers, junkers and flea market lovers. Our indoor events offer best-of shopping experiences, guest appearances, workshops, and giveaways.

April 7- April 10 – Seussical the Musical- International School of Minnesota Times Vary – Seussical features a cast of 17 students ranging from a single first grader to students in grades 3-12, a 5-student crew, one orchestral student and a very special mystery guest. Tickets are $10 and $15. Along with the play, patrons will be able to see Seuss-themed artwork that art students are working on. And the school chef is creating some sort of Seussical-themed cupcake. YUM!

April 8 –  Woodcock Walk- Eagan 7:30pm – 9pm  Discover the well-camouflaged woodcock and take a walk to try to spot and hear the bird’s aerial display Age: 8 and older. Fee: $8/person.

April 8 – Back to the Movies – Minneapolis 6pm – 8pm We’ll watch a great movie socially distanced in our multi-purpose room on our projector screen. Movie to be determined closer to date. Pre-packaged snacks and refreshments will be served. Masks are required indoors.

April 9 & 10 – Trolls Live! – Minneapolis 10am and 2pm Get ready for another hair-raising adventure when Poppy, Branch and their friends come to life on-stage in Trolls Live!, their first ever live tour! The journey begins when the Trolls’ Hug Time is unexpectedly put at risk. Knowing that the only way to save it is by doing what the Trolls do best, Poppy hosts a toe-tapping, Trolls-tastic show, jam-packed with all the epic music, glitter, humor and happiness only the Trolls can create. This is one Trolls party you won’t want to miss!

April 15 – Tiny Tot Spring Party – Minneapolis 10am – 2pm We will be celebrating spring at Logan Park on Friday, April 15th. There will be open gym, face painting, art projects, a treat bag, and of course a visit from the Easter Bunny. This program is for children ages 1-6. This is a free event, but please pre-register.

April 15 & 16 – Kids at the Castle: Spring Chicks – Minneapolis 9am – 10am It’s a morning playdate at the castle! Kids at the Castle encourages adventurous young minds through circle time, storytelling, crafts, visual play, music, and movement. Chickens are the star of this Kids at the Castle. Laugh along with silly chicken stories, search throughout the Turnblad Mansion for chicken characters, and create a craft! Adult(s) must accompany children. Suggested for ages 2-5. Space is limited; advanced registration is required.

April 16 – Family Fun Saturdays: Art Around the World – Edina 10am – 12pm Explore art together for these fun sessions designed for an adult and child.

April 16 – Stroller Donation Event 2 pm – 5 pm –  3644 Chicago Avenue Minneapolis, MN – All strollers donated will be cleaned, tuned up and distributed in the Twin Cities. Car seats also accepted.

April 16 – Full Pink Moon Hike at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum 8pm – 10:30pm – Experience the Arboretum grounds after dark during a hike named for the moss phlox that blooms in April in other parts of the country and in May in Minnesota. Start at the Sensory Garden with luminaries lighting the path along Three-Mile Walk to the Shrub Rose Garden with a shortcut back to the beginning, where bonfires will help warm any chilly fingers and toes.

April 21 – April 24 – Star Wars in Concert: Return of the Jedi with the Minnesota Orchestra – Minneapolis Times Vary “I am a Jedi, like my father before me…” In the spectacular climactic sixth episode of the Star Wars saga, Darth Vader readies the second Death Star to unleash the final blow to the Rebel Alliance. A full-length movie screening accompanied by a live performance of John Williams’ Oscar®-nominated score brings this epic battle for the galaxy to life.

April 21 & 24 – Yoga in the Gardens at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum – Times vary – Practice yoga at the Arboretum in an all-levels class led by a local instructor in areas throughout the Arboretum, such as the Lilac Collection, Azalea Collection, Sensory Garden, Chinese Garden and Rose Garden. Please bring your own mat and water bottle.

April 21 – 24 – Munchkin Markets Mega Kids Pop Up Sale – St Paul – Times Vary – Shop our 4 locations to find great deals on thousands of gently used baby and kid items from local families.

April 22 – Family Fun Night – Burnsville – 5pm – 6:30pm EGA’s Monthly Family Fun Night starts with an hour of Open Gym time where kids burn off energy and show-off their skills to Mom & Dad. Afterward we have a Dance Party, followed by Story Time featuring a highlighted Author.

April 22 – Celebrate Earth Day 2022 – Minneapolis – 4pm – 6pm We’ll be together at the Wabun D picnic shelter between 4-6 pm. Enjoy games and activities, the beautiful park space, and opportunities to meet new people and old friends. At 4:30, we will share stories and songs to honor the earth and lift up our collective actions of care. Light refreshments will be available.

April 22 – April 24 – Saint Paul Art Crawl – St Paul Times Vary The St. Paul Art Collective is proud to announce the Saint Paul Art Crawl. This event is presented each spring and fall by the Collective, who relies on artists and others who volunteer their time and resources, to make it happen.

April 22 – June 18 – Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Musical at Children’s Theatre Company – Minneapolis Times Vary Middle school, ugh. It’s the worst. But Greg is determined NOT to be at the bottom of the popularity chart. He’ll leave that to his weird neighbor, Fregley. Or maybe Greg’s best friend, Rowley Jefferson. But it’s not going to be Greg… no way. See Jeff Kinney’s popular character take center stage as Greg’s cartoon diary becomes a hilarious and heartfelt musical. Will Greg’s plans lead him to sacrifice his one true friend? Can anyone avoid the dreaded Cheese Touch? Grab a hall pass and don’t be late for an adventure familiar to anyone who actually survived middle school!

April 23 – Earth Day Clean Up – Minneapolis – 9:30am – 12pm This year’s cleanup takes place throughout the City of Minneapolis and is a collaboration between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling.

April 23 – Preschool Story Time: Earth Day Celebration – Hastings – 10am – 11:30am Monthly preschool story time programs are designed to introduce children ages 2 – 5 to nature in a fun and safe environment. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

April 23 – Houseplant Popup & Swap – Minneapolis – 10am – 3pm The greenhouse will be full with their new houseplants and tropicals. Shoppers at the event will get first pick of all the new arrivals. We’re hosting a curated mini market featuring all-things plant-themed, from pots and plant stands, to plant illustrations and prints, garden décor and accessories and more!

April 23 – 24 – Spring Antique Show – St Paul – Times Vary Here you can find antique furniture, collectibles, pottery, rugs, glassware, clocks, toys, advertising, jewelry, and much more…

April 24 – Free Family Fun Day: Bird Migration Game – Brooklyn Park – 1pm – 3pm Free Family Fun Day: Bird Migration Game. Explore through hands-on activities at your own pace. Drop in anytime.

April 24 – Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration – Richfield – 1pm – 4pm Plant a tree for Arbor Day and then join us in bringing health back to Wood Lake’s forest by pulling invasive buckthorn and picking up litter. This is a great program for scout groups and other community service organizations. Refreshments will be served.

April 29 – Arbor Day Celebration – Minneapolis 4pm – 8pm Celebrate trees during an Arbor Day street festival! Help plant trees on the freshly repaved North 3rd Street, participate in a variety of tree-themed activities and enjoy tree-themed beer and live music.

April 29 – Andersen Horticultural Library StoryTime at the Arboretum – 10:30 – 11am Celebrate nature while fostering a love of books on the last Friday of each month for StoryTime in the Andersen Horticultural Library as staff explore the library’s vast catalog of children’s books.

April 29 –St. Paul Saints vs. Nashville Sounds – St Paul – 6:37pm The St. Paul Saints are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. They are located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and have played their home games at CHS Field since 2015. Cheer them on as they take on the Nashville Sounds. 

April 29 – May 1 – Schmidt Spring Art Crawl – St Paul – Times Vary – OPEN to the Public and FREE Over 50 artists will be exhibiting their work at the Schmidt Spring Art Crawl with food by Mancini’s and ROC!

April 29 – Yoga Happy Hour at Burning Brothers Brewing – St Paul – 6pm – 7pm Unwind from your week in a place meant for friends and fun! Tap into your inner strength then celebrate with a delicious pour from the tap.

April 30 – Live & In Bloom: Floral Demonstrations by Bachman’s – Minneapolis 1:00 PM Experience art blooming before your eyes as Bachman’s floral artists put their talents to the test, creating inspiring interpretations of a Mia artwork live onstage. Presented by Bachman’s. Floral arrangements will be auctioned off at the end of the event.

April 30 – Season Kick Off Food Truck Fest and Concert – St Paul – 11am – 11pm Welcome to our Season Kick off Festival and Outdoor Concert! With food trucks & musicians and an open mic opportunity!

April 30 – Walk for Animals 2022 – St Paul – 9am Mark your calendar, and join us on Saturday, April 30. Rain or shine, gates will open at 9 AM at the International Bazaar on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. We’ll begin walking at 10 AM and all activities and vendors will wrap up at 1 PM. 

April 30 – 2022 Spring Lakeville Home Show – Lakeville – 10am – 4pm It’s the perfect show to plan your next home improvement project! Featuring up to 120 of the Twin Cities’ best Home Pros, all under one roof, that can help you with any project – inside your home or out – no matter how big or small. 

April 30 – June 5 – Farm Babies at the Minnesota Zoo – Apple Valley During Zoo Hours The babies are on the way! This year, our annual Farm Babies celebration will take place from April 30 – June 5. With goat kids, lambs, piglets, and calves expected to be born in April and May, this will provide the animals with more opportunities to be outside, as the weather is predictably warmer during those months.

Late April – May – Tulip Displays at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum – All day Day-to-day weather will determine when the tulips bloom (as well as when they fade). We’ll post updates as we get closer to peak bloom time on Facebook and Instagram.

April 30 – May 29 – The Rainflower Project at Minnesota Landscape Arboretum – This ceramic art installation in the Arboretum’s Lilac Walk is dedicated to those who have lost their lives to suicide and to the families and friends who live in its wake. Designed to generate awareness about positive mental health and suicide prevention, the project provokes an important discussion that dovetails with the Arboretum’s yellow tulip displays, representing hope and optimism for the future.

Each Wednesday in May – Messy Fingers with Pat (Langford Park) – St Paul 6:16pm – 7pm Looking something fun for your little one to do? Join Pat at Langford Park Recreation Center for some creative and messy crafts and play time. The little ones use all their senses to make artwork to bring home. Come and dress to get messy.

May 1 – Family Wildflower Walk – Eagan 11am – 12pm Hike with a naturalist when the spring ephemerals are in full bloom. Learn basic wildflower identification while exploring the trails. Ages 5 and older. Fee: $8/person.

May 1 – Art in Bloom Family Event – Minneapolis 10am – 1:30pm We’re celebrating May Day with singing, dancing, and storytelling, plus a craft for kids to decorate a May Day headpiece with fresh flowers and colorful ribbons. Children are also invited to create colorful chalk art in Target Park (weather permitting). Join our storyteller as he tells the tale of “The Gruffalo”–the scariest creature in the woods, and one brave little mouse with a big imagination.

May 1 – Family Nature Yoga – Richfield 1pm and 2:15pm Connect with your family and nature by taking your yoga practice outside! This is a great class for new or practicing yogis and fun for all ages. Enjoy movements that reflect earth, water, wind, and animal poses. Meet and greet one of Wood Lake’s animal ambassadors after class. Mats provided or bring your own.

May 1 – Bud Break 5K at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum– 8:30am Bud Break 2022 returns to the Farm at the Arb with a variety of race options, including a timed run, a non-timed run, a kids’ 1K race and a virtual choose-your-own-route version. All proceeds from the race are used for grounds and garden upkeep.

May 3 – Kids Clay Workshop: Flower Plates – Lakeville 4:30pm – 6pm For ages 6-12. Starting with a clay slab, we will add fun textures, embellishments and glaze in bright shiny colors. Workshop meets twice, once to make the project and another to glaze.

May 6 – Family Friday at Midtown Global Market – Minneapolis – 5pm – 7pm Fun and music for the entire family!

May 7 – Run Minnesota Trail Classic and Trail Kids Fun Run – Minneapolis 8am – 10pm A scenic yet challenging (hopefully muddy!) four (ish) mile looped course in Theo Wirth.

May 7 – 8th Annual Donut Dash 5K and Mini-Donut 1/2 Mile for Kids – Minnetonka 8:00 AM Your favorite things all in one place: running and donuts! Whether you are a runner, a walker, or a donut-enthusiast, this is the event for you! We are excited to be back in person for the 8th annual Donut Dash 5K and Mini-Donut Dash 1/2 Mile for Kids!

May 7 – 8 – Arboretum Plant Sale – 8am – 3pm Shop for plants selected by Minnesota Landscape Arboretum horticultural experts at this annual sale featuring a selection of sun and shade annuals and perennials, fruits and vegetables, as well as ornamental grasses, peonies, lilies, roses, hostas, Minnesota natives, trees, shrubs and more.

May 8 – 5k and 10k Beer Run x Excelsior Brewing Co – Excelsior 10:00 AM We’ve mapped out a 5k-ish and 10k-ish course to start and end at this awesome taproom in downtown Excelsior. Run, walk, jog – whatever goes! All ages, all levels are welcome. Complete the course and celebrate with us – enjoy a FREE, local craft brew at the finish line.

May 8 – Mother’s Day Brunch at the Arboretum – Chaska 9am – 2pm Honor mom with a memorable meal and thousands of blooms at Mother’s Day Brunch at the Arboretum.

May 8 – Mother’s Day Petting Zoo – Chaska – 11am – 3pm The Petting Zoo is back! Stop by to see the animals from Hasse Farms Family Petting Zoo, order up some delicious food from The Weenie Wagon Food Truck and dessert from Pretty Great Cheesecake food truck and our vendor, Sergeant Shortbread.

May 8 – Old St. Anthony Mother’s Day Market – Minneapolis 11am – 4pm  The Minnesota Craft Market will be moving into the Machine shop for a special market. They’ll have two floors full of handmade goods for Mother’s Day shopping. Bring mom along for a day of shopping local, cocktails and handmade goods by 50+ Minnesota Makers!

May 12 – Spring Family Event! – White Bear Lake 3:00 PM Family, Friendship and Fun! Our spring event will be held outside at Normandy Park Education Center and there’s a lot of fun to be had. We can’t wait to see you!

May 12 – Family Friendly Nature Stories by Pam Schweitzer – Roseville 6pm – 7:15pm Join us each month at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center in Roseville for environmental stories told by storyteller, Pam Schweitzer. Each month there will be a different theme exploring the wonders of nature.

May 13 – Family Friday at Midtown Global Market – Minneapolis – 3pm – 7pm Bring the family down to Midtown Global Market for an evening of drum and hand percussion performances from Baba Jesse & Resounding Rhythms.

May 13 – Back to the Movies – Minneapolis 6pm – 8pm We’ll watch a great movie socially distanced in our multi-purpose room on our projector screen. Movie to be determined closer to date. Pre-packaged snacks and refreshments will be served. Masks are required indoors.

May 14 – Como Town Opening Day – St Paul 11:00 AM Kids and adults will be thrilled on the wide variety of kid friendly rides including Tiger Trax Roller Coaster, The Tornado and The Kiddie Grand Prix.

May 14 – Barnyard Babies – Edina 10am – 12pm We bring the farm to you with a full-size petting zoo, pony rides and kid-friendly music for dancing. Adults must provide supervision. Registration required.

May 14 – ALS Superhero 5K/10K DASH – Minneapolis 7:30am – 11am This family-friendly event attracts runners, casual walkers, children of all ages, supporters of the ALS community and SuperHeroes of all sorts. Costumes are welcome! This distance certified, chip-timed race starts at Harriet Island Pavilion and trails along the Mississippi River.

May 14 –Kids Stacyc Demo Days – Eden Prairie 11am – 2pm Bring your kids out for a fun-filled day on two-wheels! We’ll have kids Stacyc Electric Balance Bikes available for demo rides! We’ll also have treats and drinks for your little rippers to enjoy throughout the day.

May 14 – Walk to Cure Juvenile Arthritis – Bloomington 7am By supporting the Walk to Cure Juvenile Arthritis, you are doing more than participating in the largest arthritis gathering in the world. Additionally, you are investing in the one in four people (nearly 60 million Americans), including 300,000 kids, in your community living with the debilitating effects of arthritis every day.

May 15 – Spring Royal Tea Party – Shoreview 3pm – 4:30pm Your afternoon will consist of crafts, a special appearance by a princess, storytelling, refreshments, and lots of fun. Come in your favorite princess look and don’t forget your camera! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets must be purchased for each individual participating in the event. No walk ins.

May 15 – MN ADOPT 5K Fun Run/Walk for Kids in Foster Care – Minneapolis 10am So, come walk your dog, push your stroller, or run through a 5K with us. It’s a great way to be active with your family while supporting Minnesota kids in foster care.
There will be a variety of resource tables to provide information about becoming a foster parent, supports & other topics of interest to adoptive, foster and kinship families.

Second Thursday of every month Sensory-Friendly Story Time – Minneapolis 9:30 – 10am Story Time will take place before the store opens to the general public. No music until after the store opens…except for the songs we’ll sing together! Small fidget objects will be available for children to hold if they choose. There will be a clear schedule for story time with visual cues. As with all of our storytimes, this is a no judgment zone! March 26 Sensory Friendly Performance: Something Happened in Our Town – Minneapolis 11:00 AM Friendships challenged, a world changed, and two young people struggling to make sense of it all. Follow friends and neighbors, Josh and Emma, as they navigate their way through an experience beyond their control and understanding. Josh and Emma have many questions about the tragic killing of a Black man by a White police officer. Real questions that deserve real answers. But during conversations over dinner, at bedtime, before and after school, their families (one Black and one White) find such answers don’t come easily.

April 9 Music Around the Globe – Minneapolis 2:00 PM Join us for a journey where we’ll learn how folk songs inspire composers from all over the world to showcase their cultures through orchestral music. This one-hour Relaxed Family Concert is designed for audiences of all ages and abilities, including individuals on the autism spectrum and those with sensory sensitivities. Come enjoy music with family and friends in an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome to be who they are!

April 19 Sensory Friendly Concert – Minneapolis 11:00 AM Join us in the Target Atrium for an engaging and interactive concert which is hosted by Lyndie Walker, MT-BC, from Toneworks Music Therapy Services, and features Minnesota Orchestra musicians and talented guest musicians from the audience.

April 23 Sensory Friendly Performance: What Do You Do With An Idea? – Hopkins 10:00 AM Based on the Book written by Kobi Yamada and illustrated by Mae Besom. Script by Cristina Pippa. Music & Lyrics by Sharon Kenny Trek through the journey of an idea – Our idea was to create a new musical based on this award-winning book and in April 2022, our idea will unfurl on our main stage. “What do you do with an idea?” the boy asks, and at first, it seems the best thing to do is ignore it. But, it won’t be ignored, so he nurtures it. And then, despite doubt and fear, his idea grows and grows, until one day the answer becomes abundantly clear.

May 7 Fraser Festival for Autism – Bloomington 9am – 2pm This free, fun, one-of-a-kind, sensory-friendly festival is for anyone who wants to show their support for individuals + families impacted by autism. The festival has something for everyone: therapy animals, food trucks, giveaways + activities from our sponsors + event partners.

May 15 Sensory Friendly Sunday: Springtime! – Eagan 10am – 11am Learn about the seasons and what’s happening outdoors during a naturalist led walk in the park Age: 5-10. Fee: Free; registration required.
