This holiday season is unlike any other, and we know that it can be hard to find a way to celebrate. Nearly all events in this guide are virtual or drive-thru and we hope they can help you and your family find a safe and fun way to enjoy the holidays!

We will continue to update this guide to reflect to current state guidelines and if any events become cancelled and/or changed.

GLOW Holiday Lights November 19-January 3 | Times Vary Minnesota’s newest holiday light experience and must-see holiday attraction at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds this winter. The Great Minnesota Holiday Get-Together is a one mile drive-thru with a dozen stops featuring over a million holiday lights, illuminated trees, icicle and art installations, a festive gingerbread house and more! Christmas In Color November 20-January 3 | 5:30-10:00pm Held at Valleyfair in Shakopee, you can experience Christmas like never before. Bentleyville Tour of Lights November 21-December 27 | Times Vary Take a day trip up to Duluth to experience Bentleyville in a whole new way – by car! $10 admission per vehicle.

Burnsville’s Virtual Tree Lighting CeremonyNovember 25 | 6:00 pm Every winter, Burnsville’s Heart of the City area shines bright with more than 200,000 mini lights, 230 streetlight snowflakes and a 30-foot- tall tree. This illuminating season always begins with the annual Winter Lighting Ceremony in Nicollet Commons Park. Watch this annual event from the comfort of your own home and join on Facebook or at

St. Paul’s Union Depot Holiday Tree Lighting Video: December 4 | 7:00pm In place of the usual kickoff event, Tree Lighting and Movie Night will be replaced with a video special on their website and on their Facebook page. The tree will be lit through the remainder of December on the North Plaza, the perfect back drop for some socially distanced holiday photos!

Savage Virtual Tree Lighting: December 1 | 5:30 pm Join Mayor Williams and Santa for a virtual tree lighting to officially kick off the holiday season! Sing along with special guest Kat Perkins and help us countdown to plugging in the tree lights while snuggled up at home with a cup of hot cocoa.The virtual event will be broadcast via Facebook LIVE.

Holidazzle Virtual Experience: Dates and Times Vary Join Holidazzle weekly this holiday season for The Holidazzle Show presented by Comcast! This weekly show will offer bring a variety of holiday offerings and entertainment to you virtually, wherever you are. Enjoy Santa, local retail, music and entertainment, holiday food, adorable adoptable pets, DIY, holiday foods and much more. The Holidazzle Show will air the following dates on

Santa will be visiting virtually at Holidazzle! Drive Thru Christmas in the Village (Farmington)December 5-6 and 12-13 | 1:00 – 8:00 pm Saturdays & Sundays Dakota City is planning a Covid19 safe version of Christmas In The Village this year. Buildings will be closed but decorated outside with lights. This will be a drive-through only event; you must stay in your vehicle as you view the festively-decorated village. The socially-distanced event will be free (monetary donations accepted) to the public and feature 15 holiday displays. Some displays will hark back to Christmas in the 1900s while others will use Christmas decorations of today! Bring your family to see the holiday decorations from the warmth of your car. Wave to Saint Nick in his sleigh at the depot. Write your letter to Saint Nick at home and bring it, along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope (not sealed!), to mail at the box outside our Post Office, and St. Nick will send you a reply!

Old Fashioned Holiday at Holz Farm (Eagan)December 6 | Times Vary Celebrate the Christmas Holiday at this old fashioned, 1940’s era event at Holz Farm. There is no admission fee, all events are free. You’ll enjoy experiences such as hayrides, a bonfire, s’mores, carols, live reindeer and a visit by Santa. Also, enjoy holiday cookies as they were prepared on the farm with hot cider and a warm heart. Santa is anxious to hear from those that are naughty or nice, bring your camera! Most activities are held outdoors and in the barn.

The Guthrie’s Virtual Telling of A Christmas Carol: December 19-31 Drawing inspiration from this centuries-old tradition, we are proud to present a special virtual event featuring four local actors who will reimagine Dickens’ hand-curated chapters for a global audience to enjoy. During the season that would have brought our 46th consecutive production of A Christmas Carol to the Guthrie stage, we’re thrilled to continue this holiday tradition virtually with the hope of making spirits bright while our stages are dark. Dickens’ Holiday Classic is not a recording of the Guthrie’s stage production of A Christmas Carol. It is a newly conceived offering that will be filmed and available to stream December 19–31.

Virtual Santa and Albert’s “Christmas Magic Mischief” Holiday Play at Bachman’s Saturday mornings November 21-December 19 | 10:00am For more than 30 years, it has been a beloved Bachman’s tradition to host an annual holiday play at Bachman’s flagship store on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis. Although this year looks different, we are keeping the tradition and magic alive, virtually! Twas the Night: Beginning November 20 | Times Vary Out of the Box Experience is a holiday gift from our Stages family to your family. Gather around the hearth with a cup of hot cocoa for a journey into the magic of the holiday season. Once you are gathered together, we will provide the entertainment (and the hot cocoa!). This original adaptation of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas is designed as an interactive cinematic radio broadcast to be watched and enjoyed by the whole family in your home. KS95’s Virtual “Clouds” Choir for a CauseDecember 11 | KS95 is asking their listeners to submit videos of themselves singing the below chorus of Clouds and they are putting together a virtual “Clouds Choir” video that will debut on Friday, December 11th on after the KS95 for Kids Radiothon. If you don’t want to star in the video but you still want to support the cause, you can also buy an 8th Annual Clouds Choir t-shirt for you and the family. All of the proceeds will go to the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund.

A Midwinter Gathering with Kevin KlingDecember 18 | 8:00pm Gathering with our community, our family, and our people to celebrate this holiday season will likely be different than in years past. Led by Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra performs holiday favorites via livestream, while storyteller Kevin Kling, and local poets and writers share what coming together means to them in these unprecedented time.

Jim Brickman Comfort & Joy at HomeDecember 11 | 9:00pm Grammy–nominated songwriter and piano sensation Jim Brickman will be taking the nation by storm this holiday season with the Comfort & Joy at Home 2020 Virtual Tour. A portion of each ticket purchased to this live event will benefit Hennepin Theatre Trust’s nonprofit mission. Santa’s North Pole Experience (Eden Prairie) {Virtual}: Beginning on November 27 | Times Vary For 2020, Santa’s North Pole Experience will provide Zoom calls so the children will be able to talk to Santa and tell him what they would like for Christmas. Mom or Dad will need to be the photographer this year and take photos of the children with Santa on the computer or on your television. Make your appointment on the website.

Cookies & Crafts with Santa To Go (Woodbury): December 5 | Times Vary Even Santa’s world looks a little different this year! But, he still will be taking a break from making toys and wants to see you and your family for a modified Cookies and Crafts with Santa to go! Participants will have an opportunity to talk with Santa and take a socially distanced photo with him. Santa’s elves have packed a very special take-home bag for participants that includes a holiday craft, a small bag of cookies and a very special recipe for you to make Santa’s all-time favorite cookies at home.
